Parts of the script that seemed unnatural

These are just things I felt didn't fit into the script, and if you can correct me on these points and restore my faith in the film then please do -

- Why doesn't Marcy's sister care more about her bizarre behaviour in the earlier half of the film?

- When marcy's brother in law gets enraged about her political views (this could be a calm discussion on capitalism in any family) he loses his *beep* completely, what's really not normal.

- When the guy from the cult sneaks into her sister's house at night, he spits in the salad at night, who leaves a salad out overnight to wilt?

The sister is a total see-you-next-tuesday by the way. But I guess she was written into the film like that.
I get that Marcy feels isolated and is conflicted between her life on the commune and her life outside, it must be hard for people to adjust to that but the above points are so annoying. If there are semiotics I'm missing please help me out.

You're a sneaky mom!!

I think she does care about her behavior early on. As soon as she gets there she want's to go swimming, her sister complains.

Because he's so caught up in a world of buying lots of things which he thinks makes him successful. He knows he's completely miserable with his life. He feels the fool for believing what he does about possessions when he is so time poor and miserable. Basically he's an a-hole.

The salad wasn't at her sisters it was somewhere else in one of her flashbacks. That's where some guy got killed. I think it was the only "thriller" part of the film.

I can't say anything about the script, because I haven't read it. I've just watched the movie, and it's excellent.
