OK, it wasn't great, BUT....

...it's more than a little ridiculous to cancel a show THIS quickly!

Not to mention the myriad other shows which struck me as far WORSE from the get-go!

Can a show really be judged this quickly? Even I was willing to give it a few more eps, if only because I really like Kelsey Grammer and would love to see him succeed in something.

You cannot go by ratings in 5 episodes. That's not a fair sampling. 5 eps only really reveals the success of the pre-debut marketing. Whatever reason they had for making the show in the first place should have been used to give the show a fair shot.

Again, I'm not defending the show as a "good" show. I found it fairly generic thus far. But - come on. At least give it a fair shot, if you give it a shot at all.

I agree. It was definitely getting better each episode and canceling it after 5 episodes was horrible. It wasn't great, like you said, but I definitely could see improvement in the writing. Hardly any shows are great after five episodes.

Well, apparently Kelsey himself said "let's pull the plug" after reading the latest script. He was on Leno and said this, yesterday.

At least that makes more sense and I feel better than the network execs just yanking it because of low ratings. Kelsey's heart wasn't in it, it appears, and I understand that. Also he's in a better position to be able to determine the likely direction and quality of the show.

He's quite accomplished; he has nothing to prove. He doesn't need to stay in something he feels is beneath his standards. I wish him luck on Broadway.

Frasier is a hard act to follow. Let's hope Kelsey Grammer discovers a more promising vehicle in the near future. *keeping fingers crossed* In the meantime, Broadway's gain is our loss.

Just my opinion, but I thought the last episode, Hanksgiving, was hilarious. Swoosie Kurtz would have made a fine regular as his m-i-l. The cat and the turkey? I laugh every time I think about it. Perhaps such broad humor is not Grammer's style. If he felt uncomfortable with the show, I'm glad he did pull the plug.

I believe that's why he didn't feel the need to continue. "I've done Frasier; why stick with something which will be a dog"?

That is always the problem, though, once someone did something exceptional.

Of course, were it up to me, I'd like to see a Frasier TV movie or two or maybe a big-screen. I doubt it would happen and if it did I doubt they'd manage to keep the same spirit... but it is an interesting idea.

I missed that one. I will catch it on Hulu or elsewhere. But Kelsey said that SOME of the episodes he found very good and some not funny. In fact he said "I just came from filming a hilarious episode and then read the next one, thought it wasn't funny at all, and said 'let's pull the plug'" or something like that. I imagine the Hanksgiving was the good one.

They had five episodes! Five! If it wasn't getting better after five tries, time to pull the plug.

You know, there are lots of other channels with stuff on that's better than 'so it's not great'. When I find the old-people-music Time Warner program guide is more enjoyable than Hank, I don't think giving it a longer run is going to help.

I can agree, as long as it's someone like Kelsey saying "it's not up to snuff" and not some bean-counter behind a corporate desk saying "the ratings weren't high enough" (which doesn't make sense for only 5 eps).

Since it was, indeed, as confirmed by Kelsey, a plug pulled because of quality issues, I can appreciate that.

I have to admit - Hank's botox-excess wife never really did it for me, either. I don't know if it was her as much as the frozen-eyed expressions OR, maybe, the way the character was written. But I always thought she was not a good match for Kelsey.

I thought that the best episodes were the ones where he and Maddy get a job at the ice cream parlor, and the Thanksgiving one.
