So need a Black Panther Movie...

This would be fantastic, and very different from all the other superhero movies getting thrown around. It has a different country setting being in africa, the mythology of the mythical country Wakandu has a lot of room for interesting script ideas.

Perhaps by the year 2020 we'll get one, lets keep our fingers crossed.

Because it is grounded in reality I think that a black panther movie could be done on the cheap, so its possible for this to be one of marvels smaller budget second tier superhero movies

reply

Well it sure wasn't done on the cheap and it looks like the return on those dollars will be worth it too.

It was originally the film Wesley Snipes was trying to do but Blade got greenlit first with financing.

They've been going back and forth for years on this one. it will eventually come out. If they gave Man-Thing a flick then I know BP deserves one.

If you want to go way back, John Singleton was attached to write and direct a movie, and Wesley Snipes came on board. That's been in and out of development hell. Snipes is a bit old for it now, though he could play an older role. Djimon Hounsou would be good, but he is getting a bit old, too. Chiwetel Ejiofor (Serenity, Kinky Boots, Red Belt) would be fantastic, from both an acting standpoint and a physical standpoint. One would also hope that any movie kept Wakanda as a technologically advanced country. I would love to see an adaptation of the "Panther's Rage" storyline, from the 70's. It could easily fill the 2nd and 3rd parts of a trilogy. Film one, T'Challa becomes the Panther and must carry out a mission in the west. In film two, he returns to Wakand, after an extended absence, to find resentment from his people (due to his long absence) and an usurper in Killmonger. In the third film, he defeats Killmonger in battle and resumes his rightful place on the throne, while resolving to keep his people his first priority.

I don't know if Black Panther would work as a stand alone movie. They should bring the character into the Avengers sequel. And at 46, I don't think it's inconceivable to cast Djimon Hounsou. Look at SLJ or Robert Downey, Jr.

There is allready a black panther movie called "Panther", made 1995. I saw it as a kid a couple of times and thought it was great. Not so sure how i would feel if i watched it again now though.

That isn't even the same thing. Panther was about the Black Panther Party. This is about a Marvel superhero.

You tried.

Your wish is granted my man. Marvel has green lit Black Panther, starring Chadwick Boseman --> http://www.imdb.com/news/ni57933219/?ref_=hm_nw_tp_t1

Personally I hope this spawns more modern black super heroes AND movies.

I was never a big fan of black panther he just seemed like a Black Batman but not as cool..

Yes there exist some but they never seem to have as deep lore as the white super heroes.

That is why they seem to go as far as back to fetch on as Black Panther as there is so few and many knows who Black Panther is of the few black heroes there are.

I guess Nick Fury can be seen as a modern black hero but he was white in the beginning so he just turned black somewhat recently.

Blade need to be reborn yet again too.

Spawn aswell.

But Batman,Superman Hulk etc had so many diffrent incarnations because of diffrent and larger lore sourrunding them.

Could one modernize Black Panther without people would think it falls on- ok he is a black Batman or something like?

I dont know but hope so.

One Super hero team I longed for more in that case is Cloak and Dagger...
These heroes have even been made into more modern comics versions.

Fast forward and here we are with MCU Black Panther.

The topics being talked about around this movie are dramatically different now then what was being discussed 4-8 years ago.

Reading through this thread is entertaining for POVs expressed as to why the film would or would not be made.
