was this supposed to be bad?

i turned it on about halfway through, and i just cannot see how it was even intended to be good. it took me a good 10 minutes just to figure out it was an earnest attempt at a sitcom and not some kind of ironic inside joke.

just terrible. i guess it could get better.

Yes, it was created to fail.
It just gave each person involved another bullet point on their resume.
The shame is the actors looked like they could deal with the material on their own better than as directed. You could feel them all trying to hold a grin one second too long or mug a smile an extra inch beyond comfort just to please someone planning the laff trak.

LOL, I'm watching it on NBC right now & initially thought it was a gag on 30 Rock. They just cut to commercial, I guess it's a real, stand-alone show.

Yeah, me to, at first I thought this was some fake show on 30 Rock...and then it just kept going on. How the *beep* did something this bad get on tv?

Yes, I thought it was supposed to be "Chums" the fake UK "Friends"-style show Wesley was talking about when he said that he and Liz were like "Russ and Rebecca."

we like Sophie Winkleman and David Walton, and sometimes Christoper Moynihan (in his acting capacity). better writing and no laugh track might be able to make it an ok show but it sure seems doubtful, doesn't it?

reply

Haha. Totally glad I wasn't the only person to initially think it had to be some sort of parody...

reply

Same here. I thought they were spoofing soap operas, but to my horror this was actually the show. GOD AWFUL!!!

reply

Thank you. This is the worst thing ever to happen to television. I can't sit through an entire minute of it without cringing at the awful dialogue and that wretchedly-forced laugh track.

Just once I would like people on these boards to show that they have some INKLING on how television actually works. In the industry, this pilot was very well received and people were very excited about it once it got picked up to series. But then the Head of the Network was fired and a new person was hired. This new person - now running the entire network - only had background in Drama and proceeded to note this new sitcom to death and the fact that it was picked up by her predecessor meant of course she already hated it. I just wish people would be more aware that this corporate mentality at all the networks is what is killing original comedy. Comedy by committee rarely works - that's why the original shows with original voices are popping up on cable and other start-ups then the quickly fading NBC.
