Is it close to the book?

I got foreign literature exam in a few days. Figured I watch this, I don't have time to read. Are there any big differences with the book?

reply

Yeah, nobody shouts in the book. Also, Forestier and mr. Walter (they changed his name to Rousset in the film) are not at any point enemies of Duroy, nor do they humiliate him in public like the movie shows. Do yourself a favor and read the book.

I thought the ladies might have joined forces to ruin him big time. However not read the book and not got time to but might do in future. I did like this film despite it getting the thumbs down from many, reminded me slightly of Dangerous Liaisons.

Compared to your average movie adaptation, it was pretty faithful to the book. BOOK SPOILERS: As mentioned, there was no enmity between him and the boss-man. He never got fired from the paper. The married couple did go honeymooning in his hometown, but she thought it was the sticks and asked to leave after a day. He was not suspicious of an affair with Vaudrec until the will was read, and his wife never admitted an affair. No one made cracks about Vaudrec. They *did* make cracks about him being "Forrestier," which fueled his rage at this time. The last quarter of the movie is verrrrrrrrrrrry rushed. He had more interaction with Suzanne than an approving glance at a party!

In the book, Georges is more of a cad, a smooth operator, ruthless, rageful. It makes the ending all the more bitterly powerful that he "wins."

movie is very rushed and many enjoyable and interesting parts are missing or changed in the way that it makes movie boring and dull to watch. its not close to book at all
