Cheat? (Spoilers)

When the sheriff carries Virginia out of the house in the opening scene she's clearly alive, open eyed & blinking. & of course you wouldn't expect the sheriff to carry a corpse out to his cruiser & put her in the back seat, whatever his feelings for her may have been. But I could have suspended disbelief for that had it not been for the different opening scene. It was clear, after all, in the beginning that Willie was there only to her--& likely dead, as she told him she'd heard.

So it seemed as though the filmmaker was trying a bit too hard to have his cake & eat it, too.
