why was three rivers cancelled???

I have been catching up with this show online because the premise sounded interesting and I have laughed and cried during every episode. I know that it doesn't sound like the best show but what was CBS thinking canceling it?!?

It came down to numbers. It just wasn't pulling in very high numbers. And when you start airing a show during sports season when games go long, it's to be expected that people aren't going to know when to watch.

Plus, by airing eps out of order, the character arcs are all screwy!

When I looked at the ratings though, it had about 9 million viewers. Um that is a lot more than a ton of shows on tv and higher than a lot of other shows even on CBS. How is that bad ratings? People were really liking it too. Plus it wasn't fair to have the show on the same night and time as football even though I thought 9 million was very good for competeing with football. I hate that networks can't even give a new show at least a whole season, it's not fair to the peole that have been watching to just cancel randomly. I'm glad I found out that it's back on and they have been showing new episodes for the last few weeks.

9 millions had only premiere.
And they are watching not total viewers, but viwers 18-49. And if I remember correctly they had below 2.0 18-49 rating. Yeah, they wasnt terrible, but also no near expected.

reply

Well I looked at the ratings for the other episodes and I saw a lot of 8 million. Like I said I know a lot of other shows on CBS that do a lot of worse and they aren't cancelling them. Also it wasn't completely fair since it was on the same time as sunday night football. Shows should be at least given a whole season before deciding.

i may just be a soppy sod but todays episode was so heart wrenching, it had me grinning from ear to ear all day, i was so happy when (SPOILERSSS) Kuol finally got that heart he deserved, how can they cancel something so bloody brilliant, this is one medical show that has a lot of potential whereas lets say royal pains, miami medical etc etc live on x

I haven't watched any of the new ones that are in because I just found out a couple days ago so I have to watch them on demand. Yeah I think it's a great show with some very touching moments and people seem to really like it but CBS cares about it super high ratings which a lot of shows don't have good ratings and they keep the shows on.

reply

yea poor ratings... they picked a bad nite to air too, either sat or sun nite...

reply

Well it was on at the same as sunday night football which I didn't think was fair. When I looked I thought the ratings were pretty damn good for a sunday.

reply

yea networks expect too much on bad nites against tough competition...

some of it is luck where you are time slotted..

reply

The ratings were really low for CBS and also the preferred demographic of 18 to 49 was really low.

If you liked Alex O'Loughlin check out his romantic vampire show Moonlight (2007). He was really good in it.

Yes, that episode was really good. I suppose this show was cancelled because of ratings, but because there are so many other great medical shows that has lasted a long time, like "Greys Anatomy" which is really great.

I'm disappointed that "Three Rivers" was cancelled, sure the show was more about the patients but they didn't allow enough episodes to air for the character development to finally go through.

"Three Rivers" another show that I like was cancelled :(.

UH OK I see your remarks, were made like over 2 years ago, but Miami Medical was also Canned, Mercy, ( A Personal Fan Favorite of mine ) was Axed unceremoniously, and they were all Medical Dramas, guess it is once again not the year, for the Scripted Medical Drama, although the Mob Doctor is seemingly Hanging on, but I have not checked it's Updated Status,( OK this Just in at least as far as I was concerned, It HAS IN FACT BEEN CANNED Man I am starting to hate all the Big Networks, I Really Liked Miss Jordana, and I think, she should have been allowed to show just what she was capable of ) But Yeah, the writing was Very Weak, but again an Interesting Premise is Shelved! Way to go FOX, Be very very careful as You guys r now starting to Resemble ABC, in the Cancellation Sweepstakes!, but then again it is Executive produced by Mr Lance Gentile, who was infamously now, one of the Main driving forces, behind that seminal show of shows ER ( most probably the Best show to ever air, until LOST, The Sopranos, and Now Person of Interest have come along ) as stuff, should be able to fill in 4 shows etc:

seriously....i watched the 1st episode, and was suprised they even aired it.
its like a "greys anatomy" Wannabe mixed with 24 and ER and really not as good as any of them.
i mean i love kate moening but c'mon....

I LOVE medical dramas and even though I enjoyed this one mildly, it did leave a lot to be desired. With the exception of Woodard and Moennig, the acting was pretty mediocre, the writing was inaccurate and bland, and while I know the show focuses on transplants, it does get a little tedious.

reply

it got off to a BAD start, they showed the 2nd episode first because of a cast change, so it didn't exactly make sense for a first episode
