Alex O'Loughlin

He's back!! I'm so happy!!!

And that is all . . .

reply

I'm seconding that with a squeal of delight.

reply

I'm happy, too! But did you see his guest shot on Criminal Minds? He was absolutely scary!! Just proves you can't keep a good actor down!! Still miss Moonlight though.

I have to agree with those here who said the show wasn't very good. I gave up 30 minutes in and I'm a hardcore Alex worshipper from way back. Granted, I'm not a fan of medical shows so there was already one strike against it going in.

What else can I say?

I agee, JP205. I had SO been looking forward to his magnificent countenance. And, his acting is good in this show. But the show itself is... BAH HUMBUG! I'm jaded, I've been a professional RN since 1982 and I usually HATE medical shows, I only wanted to see Alex!

reply

Hey listen!....I've have this pain in my chest that's been bothering me. Just kidding!

Maybe his big screen debut will jumpstart his star once again.

I'm gonna use this show to try to fill the hole in my heart CBS gave me when it cancelled Moonlight!!! Hopefully it'll be good. *sigh* But even if its not, I'll probably watch it... :D

well, u also still have "the back up plan" to look forward to :)

I like him a lot as the intense but vulnerable vampire in Moonlight, I am not sure he will fit to be a doctor. I hope he'll do well...

you should check out the thread that has the Extended promo - you can check out if he fits being a doctor: ) - personally I have no complaints LOL...

Just got back to this thread after a long break and saw suzan28's response about not seeing him on Criminal Minds. You may not want to see him but you should!! He was the "baddie" but in some ways was very sympathetic. Give it a try if you get a chance. The episode was "The Big Wheel".

reply

One of my favorite episodes on Criminal Minds! I love that most of the episode was in his point of view. They don't do that very often. I cried in the end. And I'm not a big crier.

I loved Alex in Moonlight and I am going to check out this new show. I could have done without the name they gave him but what the heck. I still miss Moonlight and think that the woman at CBS who pulled the plug on it should have been demoted if not fired.

reply

My God,why do you Moonlight fans keep blaming her and CBS??? there is one reason and one reason only why they canceled Moonlight..it didnt have enough viewers to have good ratings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Cant you all ever accept that fact?? No one cancels a hit show lol

reply

there is one reason and one reason only why they canceled Moonlight..it didnt have enough viewers to have good ratings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Moonlight consistently won it's time slot. and given that it aired on Friday night at 9:00 pm, it had the viewership (7 million). Moonlight also won the Best New Drama at the People's Choice Awards. What does that tell you? Had CBS switched it to another day and time, maybe things would have worked out.

Sorry, but I still blame CBS.

reply

"Moonlight..it didnt have enough viewers to have good ratings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Wrong! Moonlight actually WON it's time slot every single week but CBS did not OWN Moonlight and when the production crew changed quite a bit - the normal shakeout which occurs early in any TV show's life - CBS got nervous. CBS rarely broadcasts shows it does not own and when show runner personalities began to appear to clash behind the scenes, CBS got nervous and pulled the plug.

The cancellation had nothing to do with Alex, it had to do with CBS and how it runs its business.

If you don't like him as an actor, fine; but don't blame him for decisions that had nothing to do with him. In point of fact, Three Rivers was made to honor the contract that CBS had with him after Moonlight was canceled. If they had not had confidence in him as an actor, they could have bought out his contract after canceling Moonlight MUCH more cheaply than of pouring millions and millions into a whole new series that failed.

In point of fact, it would have been cheaper all the way around to keep Moonlight on the air than make the decisions CBS has made to date with O'Loughlin.

Ironically, CBS has acted incredibly stupidly with respect to how they've handled the whole ball of wax: they had a show that was getting ready to break out of the box which they canceled in order to make a show that was a disaster.

It's actually pretty funny unless you're a Moonlight fan, in which case it's still sickening.

"As the Philosopher Jagger said, you can't always get what you want."

reply

It actually was a “performer” or whatever they call a sturdy but not top show. CBS wanted to keep it, but demanded creative changes that the production wasn’t willing. Even as it was, Moonlight already started downplaying the kind of show it wanted to be.

reply

He's as cute as a bug in a rug. But this show is TERRIBLE!!! Moonlight was ok and getting better, but "Dr Kildare" was best left in 1960's.

reply

It's great to have Alex back!!!! I'll watch ANYTHING he's in! ;-) Even if this show doesn't make it, he's creating quite a name for himself!!!

reply

LOL Yeah,he is creating a name in a negative way,a man who cant act well enough to carry any show he is on.

Don't make me call the flying monkeys

reply

Oh ezmirela....LOL!!!!! You know that isn't true, but I'm sure you'llr espond anyway, just because.

CBS wouldn't have gone out of their way to put him under contract for TV/movies so quickly, if you were in fact correct, which you aren't. Everyone has their own opinion of him, and there are PLENTY of people out there who love Alex...me included! ;-)

reply

I know what is true? that he isnt a good actor? Um,no that is my opinion and apparently one that many agree upon, why is it he cant ever be on a hit show? and please dont start with all of the Moonlight/CBS excuses.

Don't make me call the flying monkeys

reply

Hi MNR! I'll add my vote to the list of people who love Alex, and Moonlight, and think he has a great future whether "Three Rivers" succeeds or not.

It's always interesting to me that some people with negative opinions of a show or an actor stay on a board for the sole purpose of bashing. If you don't like Alex and Three Rivers, say so, and then MOVE ON to a board of a show you do like and talk to the people there! There's enough negativity in the world.

reply

Its always interesting to me that some people dont realize that these are discussion boards. They arent fan boards. They are here for people to discuss their opinions, good or bad.I have a right to come here and speak my opinion just as you do,itha.

Don't make me call the flying monkeys

reply

Ith!!! Exactly. Why can't they say their peace and move on. I simply do not understand why anyone would spend time posting about something they don't like...and continue to do so. No matter what they write it's not going to change my opinion about Alex and his acting capabilities.

reply

Who is trying to change your mind? Im only stating MY own opinion,I couldnt care less if you or anyone likes him or his show. You fans of his are so insecure and will always blame CBS because he cant have a hit show, that is what makes me ill.

Don't make me call the flying monkeys

reply

Ez-

First, I would like to point out the obvious. I was in fact NOT responding to you...I was writing to Ith. Secondly, I never stated anything NEGATIVE about CBS.

I couldnt care less if you are anyone likes him or his show

Yet you are STILL here...responding...for what, exactly? Seeing as though you don't care?

Too much time is being spent here. Do you get off on writing negative thngs about people..people you don't even know? LOL! Seriously, give it a rest. We got it. You don't like Alex...you don't like the show. Great, thanks. Now, can we move on?

reply

First let me say, I loved Moonlight and was disappointed CBS cancelled it.

Now, if this show gets cancelled, Alex will start to develope a negative reputation that he can't carry a show. That may limit him to supporting roles.
Not that it's a bad thing, we should all be so lucky. But face it, two failed shows won't look good.

-If you have a job an illegal could steal, it's time to get a better job.-

reply

You're right. It definitely wouldn't look good. But you also have to take into account that Moonligt being cancelled had nothing to do with his acting. It was all the behind-the-scenes drama. Nina stated the fan support was mostly centered on him which must have played a part in them signing him up with another contract.

As far as Three Rivers. I did not really feel that Alex was portrayed as the "lead". The female actor had just as much screen time as he did.

I hate to admit it but I didn't really feel a connection to his character. If this was the first thing I had seen him in I would think he's cute and he's not bad, but again I wasn't immediately hooked on Moonlight until the end of the first episode and it progressed from there. I'm still hoping this new show will improve. I think it will if given a little more time, but the question is, will they give it time?????

reply

JP,glad to see a fan of his that realizes this.Any actor that has starred in 2 failed series within the last 2 years really doesnt deserve another starring role chance. He would do much better as part of an ensemble cast,he just doesn't have a commanding enough presence to be the lead actor.

Don't make me call the flying monkeys

reply

Since you obviously have not listened to what other posters have said numerous times, I will repeat it. Alex left The Shield to star in Moonlight, and Moonlight did not fail because of Alex. There were numerous backstage conflicts among showrunners, Joel Silver, CBS, etc. Alex obviously has the presence and talent to be a lead, which is why he will be starring in the Jennifer Lopez movie "The Backup Plan".

Why are you so intent on bashing Alex? If you don't like him, you're entitled to that opinion, but why respond to every thread with the same diatribe?

reply

That's right, Ith. Tell miss know it all (who apparently has NONE of their facts straight and cannot concede when they are proven wrong over and over again). It's unfortunate.

On a different note, do you think Alex had "enough" screen time? There was so much going on that I truly didn't feel like he was the "lead". What do you think?

Also, I LOVED the scene where he was eating the donut (or cinnamon roll). I couldn't help but remember the Dunkin' Donut scene!! LOVED IT!

reply

Im not putting anyone down who likes him,do I like him,no,I dont.I just get tired of anytime he is on anything some of his fans wont see what is right in front of their eyes, they make constant excuses about his failed shows.

I like alot of actors, but I can tell when they are in something good or did a good job, or when they didnt.

I dont expect to like anyone that never has faults.
Anyway,I am through posting on this board,I watched this show and came here to give my opinions and it ended up being a petty argument which it was never intended to be.It got so bad I had to put a user on ignore because she was literally harassing me and I have never had to do that on here before.
To those who like him, fine and well, but try to realize that everyone that comes here doesn't and they have the right to voice that.

I seriously don't mind that you hate him. That's fine. It's your opinion, and I'd hate to watch an actor that has bothered me as much as he has bothered you.

I do, however, think that I wouldn't be posting on every bulletin board of every actor that I abhor watching. What is the point in that!

I take exception (as have many others) with the statement "They make constant excuses about his failed shows".

If you want people to respect your opinions, you need to get your facts straight.

Even if you hate Alex, the reasons why he is no longer in the two previous television series is not "an excuse" they are due to the very reasons that others have bothered to post to enlighten you.

reply

Can't agree more. Somewhere on these pages I posted a link to an interview with the woman who's in charge of programming. Wish I could remember where! She admitted that they'd made a mistake cancelling Moonlight and there was no fault on Alex's part. He did everything he could to keep the show going.

I know this post is coming late but I do hope someone can find the link I mentioned above.

reply

Talk about McDreamy! Alex is gorgeous!

reply

Dreamy doesn't even begin to describe him. Lol. Oh and his acting is really good too!!! Lol.

reply

Yes, I wanted more Alex in TR but we were truly spoiled in Moonlight. At least he is not working 20 hour days anymore. We need to know more about these characters because the organ donation stuff was not that interesting to me. They need to do what successful shows like NCIS are doing. Who cares about the story -- it's the humor, drama and interaction of the characters that matters the most.

reply

Helloeeze-

OMG!!! I SO agree with you. I posted something similar in one of these threads. Doctors are people too...they have friends, family, lovers, hobbies, quirks, whatever. When will we find out about that? It CANNOT be just about organ transplants. Alex is the lead, so will there be a heart transplant each week? That's not gonna work.

reply

I agree with you and helloeeze. Alex's great talent is to be able to portray the emotions, fears and pain that make us human (or vampire, as the case may be). Hopefully we will get to see the human stories behind this medical staff.

I thought about the Crispy Cremes in ML during the doughnut scene too.
I also thought about Alex in the Criminal Minds episode a few months ago. He was able to make me feel compassion for the serial killer! That's acting!!! I think if the writers can give Alex some good material, he could put some life into this show.

reply

I had completely forgotten about the Krispy Kremes! LOL! Maybe that's why he was smiling so much while eating during the doughnut scene.

reply

Molly-

That was the FIRST thing that came to my mind!!! LOL! It was too adorable!!!

reply

Ith-

You got it, girl!! He has the most expressive eyes...maybe THAT'S why they were doing the close-ups? LOL!!! Just kidding.

I also agree about Criminal Minds!!!!

The show will get better, as long as it's given a little more time...and TPTB LISTEN and REALIZE there are some real problems...problems that can easily be fixed!!!

reply

Really loving this show... Great selection in cast and loving the High Tech facility!

Alex Oooooooooooooooooooo

Great to see you back on T.V. and looking forward to the movies. YOU ROCK!

Do you catch a breath, when I look at you

I'm glad to see him in anything. I wish it was 'Moonlight, Season Two' but what can you do?

reply

How is this show going in the US? The ten network here in Australia axed it after only one episode! I am so ashamed that Alex's home country did not give it a chance.

This is my personal fav: http://wikus.co.za/back-to-district-ix/

reply

It's struggling here in the US, but the shows ARE improving. As far as axing it in Australia, wasn't Moonlight axed pretty early too???

reply

Yes it was. As soon as our networks get wind that the show may be cancelled soon in the US they pull it just like that with no regards to the fans or the fact that there is an Australian actor in the lead. They have now done this twice to Alex and is sucks. I feel so bad for him that his own country does not support his work.

This is my personal fav: http://wikus.co.za/back-to-district-ix/

reply

Yeah, I have to gree, that sucks!!!! Even Alex was stating that many people didn't even know him/recognize him in Australia. The tabloids would state "Holly Valance and boyfriend" when they arrived in Autralia last year when clearly ALEX is the star here in the US! My Aussie sister-in-law who has barely been in the US for two years had no idea who he was until I said he had been dating Holly. That just blows my mind!!!!

Well, I'll support him no matter what, but seriously, something's got to give!!!! I'm eagerly awaiting "The Back Up Plan"!!!

reply

Oh mnrobinson1, my mind has blown too! I cringe because we Aussies are sounding so stupid to the rest of the world atm!

This is my personal fav: http://wikus.co.za/back-to-district-ix/

reply

Not, "stupid", it' just interesting how someone is SO popular in a country that is not his own, and virtually unknown in his own. But, that's alright, we'll tae him! He's soooo damn ideal...oh yeah, and talented too!!!
