I was severely disappointed by this disjointed mess. I wanted to like it for so many reasons but it was awful. It felt like 4-5 plots were occurring simultaneously with no apparent direction and Sean Penn's character was nauseating. It had a lot of promise but this was arguably the least enjoyable movie i've seen in a long time
shareSame here, although I held interest in the Penn character throughout the entire movie. I've got a theory about Italian directors - their movies look great, but good luck finding a plot. They (in general) seem more interested in creating atmosphere, usually through photography, than a cohorent plotline.
They usually drive me nuts, although every so often I can get into a movie where nothing much happens - for instance I like Yasujirō Ozu (Tokyo Story) a lot. This isn't the worst movie I've seen this week even, but it was one of the most pointless.
