Two words I am despising in film: 'Self Discovery' - Possible Spolier

I am now to the point where if I read 'on a path to self discovery' in a film description, I pass on the film.

I purposely didnt want to know much about the plot of This Must Be The Place because I like to be surprised and I'm a die-hard Penn fan.

But after about 15 minutes I thought 'I hope he doesnt go on a journey, find his 'true self', get cleaned up and cut his hair...'

Oh well. Sean Penn was so great in this film, though the one track delivery got a little tiresome, and the movie started off so well... until he learned about his father. The rest of the movie didnt live up to it's potential nor did it compliment Penn's performance.

And I found it amusing that he looked like he did, yet no one in these small American towns even gave him a second look.

Ultimately liked the film, but the end was a cop out. He cuts his hair and manages to crack a smile.

Wished they wrote a better screenplay and threw out the nazi crap.
