cheyen's 2 fathers

I watched this film on netflix about a year ago and was particularly moved by a narrated scene where Cheyene's father read a letter about his life before the concentration camps. A slightly different script read by a very different sounding voice actor just occurred as I am re-watching what I thought was the same film only now one year later. Any clues as to what version this former voice might have come from? It was really one of the most sentimental parts of the movie!
