Open letter to Americans

I found the opening letter to be rather snarky and not funny. Am I not understanding the humor?

I am the first person to slag off Americans (I am one myself) but I found it to be kind of assholish and petty. The people that are likely to even bother watching this movie are not exactly the typical Americans that this open letter was really addressing, so it comes off as overly stereotypical garbage. I was actually wanting to see this flick when I kept seeing it show up on netflix and amazon instant, so I started to watch it and couldn't get past that letter.

Hey, hey you American Aholes. Watch my movie! What a pompous prick. He must have been picking his nose or sleeping through film school and thought his professors said " Do spit in the face of hundreds of millions of potential viewers of your film, it is not like they have other viewing options "

Glad I'm not the only one that felt this way. Maybe if it had something to do with the film, but there really was no reason to include it at all.

Who cares? This movie sucks

reply

No it doesn't. But it's not for everyone.

The opening letter was irrelevant to the movie, childish, historically ignorant, and generally offensive. I like Ayoade, but this was just stupid and unnecessary. Open letter to Welsh people: Pretty much all Americans who watch independent films know where Wales is. Not only that, but the U.S. has never had, and will never have, any interest in invading Wales. Relax.
