I got to thinking about Pierce's living situation.

So Troy lived with Pierce in his mansion for awhile. Troy was there when Pierce's mother died, so it was then understood that she lived there. We later found out his father was still alive (despite his mother's comment about seeing his ghost). Then during the Halloween episode they stated that Pierce had been living with his parents into his 60's. So it's confirmed he lived there with both his parents. I started wondering about all Pierce's marriages. Apparently he lived with his wives with his parents? Then I thought about the fact that Troy lived there. With Pierce's extremely racist father.

They actually addressed the Pierce's mother seeing his father's ghost plot hole in Advanced Gay. I think it's that one. Annie makes a comment about thinking Pierce's father was dead just based on the math and Pierce replies, "Well, Mom liked to pretend that was the case". I'm paraphrasing but you get the point.

That makes me think his parents were at least separated, which leads to this next paragraph.

I don't think Pierce's father lived with him and I think that was Pierce's mansion (not his parents'). It looks like something Pierce would design. He let his mother live with him but when his father showed up he was surprised and it seemed like he hadn't seen him in a while.

Definitely wasn't Peirce's mansion since Gilbert inherited it when he won the video game. I was thinking that maybe although his father owned it (along with other estates) it was one that was solely for Pierce to use, but then I looked up the map of the house from the Halloween episode and one of the rooms is clearly marked "Cornelius Hawthorne Bedroom". I agree that it didn't seem like they had seen each other much, but some information seems contradictory.

Yeah, I chalk some of that up to Season 4 continuity issues. Like the entire Heroic Origins episode.

Don't get me wrong, you're making a valid point, but I take anything Season 4 with a grain of salt. Especially after they say in the commentary for Heroic Origins they blatantly just threw continuity to the wind.

That's all I'm saying. I think originally they planned for Pierce's father to have been dead, but then decided later that they could do some good stories with him, so changed that idea, and Pierce's explanation of his mother's words covered that well enough. I think it was originally supposed to specifically be Pierce's mansion in every sense of the word, but then they changed that and Cornelius living there (which was never indicated before, and as said really seemed like they rarely saw each other) for the purpose of the halloween episode, without thinking about or reconciling how it fit previous things.

We should take all Community with a grain of salt. They've never been good with continuity. It's unfair to say season 4 was the only season with some continuity erros.

I didn't say that. I meant in that specific case (Paranormal Parentage) I chalk it up to the people in charge of Season 4. Megan Ganz says on the commentary that the house was designed to look like something Pierce would have designed in the 80s and never changed. If it was made to look like Pierce designed it then it must have been Pierce's, or at least for Pierce. Then why would Cornelius have a bedroom there?

Of course Pierce would probably, in an attempt to impress him, have had a room set aside for his father in the mansion that he (Cornelius) paid for. But based on the commentary I don't think that it would have been Cornelius's primary home. Or, based on their relationship, I doubt he would ever have wanted to stay in Pierce's home.

Is this a continuity error? Maybe.

Is there a chance the show runners did this on purpose for the reason I stated? Possibly.

If Dan Harmon had been in charge of Season 4 would this have gone the exact same way? There's a chance.

Am I overthinking this? Absolutely.

Perhaps Pierce moved back sometime after his last divorce. I've seen one divorce from a childless marriage leave someone on the brink of bankruptcy. Pierce had several divorces. Maybe the money train from his family had dried up.
