Yes blame Netflix as obviously this is the only movie they are streaming.... not like they have a few others someone could watch...

I don't blame Netflix, but, wow, was this movie ever terrible.
While it's definitely not the worst movie I've ever seen, it's easily the worst Australian movie I've seen (I think you can take that as a compliment to your film industry, if any Australians are reading this post).
The beginning prehistoric intro seemed out of place, but when the characters were introduced (despite them being annoying), it seemed like this movie was going to be relatively good or at least okay—it started out with a nice, slow build-up with what seemed like a good story.
But, once the first girl "turned" the movie quickly became terrible & continued to degrade as it went on. & the cave squid-rape scene... that was completely ridiculous.

I take it you haven't seen many Australian movies.
I consider the worst movie ever made was Bloodlust. It was meant to be funny, perhaps even satirical, but was simply awful. By comparison Primal looks almost good.
Akray raised the ante but the abysmal Bloodlust is still much better than Murrabinna, Holidays On The River Yarra, Dust Off The Wings, I.C.U. or Wasteland.
Primal is pretty shoddy but it outdoes some of its peers by way of era and broad genre, namely 7th Hunt, Watch Me, Loved Ones, 6 Plots, Dying Breed, etc.
All of the above were also the fault of Netflix.
