Guran is a woman?!

Hahaha..

It seems Guran had a sex change. :P

I haven't seen this, and I sort of get why they would want to change the little fat black dude, but change his sex, and keep the name? Hahaha.. This thing must be soo bad.

To be fair, it's not like a lot of the fictional setting of Bangalla/Bengalla in the comic itself was terribly consistent. It's been described as a jungle setting in India, in Africa, somewhere in the middle; even as an island once or twice.

I'd prefer a male, African Guran, myself, but I'll take an Indonesian woman who fills Guran's role--standing by Kit's side as guide and mentor, helping him, teaching him, to become the Phantom that the world needs.

...and besides, she's rather easy on the eyes and intelligent to boot. :D

I know these posts are a bit old, but the actress who plays Guran is Sandrine Holt. I'm a fan of hers. She first made her film appearance in the movie "Black Robe" and went on to play others roles, including the character Li Ann in the short-lived TV series, "Once A Thief", Mona, a well-travelled and sexually charged woman from Trinidad, in "Loving Jezebel", Terri Morales, the weather woman for one of Raccoon City's news channels in "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" and Catherine Rothberg, high risk addiction, poker playing lesbian in five episodes of "The L Word".

Honestly, I kinda wish she would be given a leading role in a film or TV show. If "The Phantom" gets picked up as an actual show, I'd tune into it just because I'm a dedicated fan.

But this one's eating my popcorn!

Ah, a fellow necro-poster as well as someone who gives movies and television series a chance just because an actor is in it! :D Years and years ago I watched Moby Dick on vable just because it starred Patrick Stewart (and loved it), and I gave Rizzoli and Isles a shot solely because of Angie Harmon (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004990/). Haven't been disappointed, either.

Glad to see someone else who can enjoy an actor's work enough to check out things they might not ordinarily watch. :)

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who does so. :D And yeah, I do watch things people don't normally watch because of Sandrine. I've seen ""Starship Troopers 2" and "Fire Serpent" because of Sandrine. But I've seen quite a few films that were interesting with her in them, such as "Century Hotel", "Happy Hour", "Sam's Lake" and "Il mio West" (released in the U.S. as "Gunslinger's Revenge"). I've even caught a short film with her in it not too long ago, too. It was a BMW Canada short called "Mr. Jones: Drive" (I kinda wish this was still up for viewing).

But, as you've said, I'm glad to see someone else who can enjoy an actor's work enough to check out things they might not ordinarily watch. :D

Most of my "Hey they're in it so I'll give it a shot" actors and actresses are from either the Star Trek or Law and Order franchises. Most of the time I've not been disappointed. Most of the time.

Marina Sirtis was in quite a few--iffy--roles. She was in The Grudge 3, which was alright, but the worst movie I've seen her in I can't find on IMDb. None of the titles in her acting credits that I didn't already recognize seemed at all familiar.

It was some stinker about superconductors. All I really remember is that I was laughing at the movie. She delivered her lines wonderfully as expected, but--the science behind all of it was crap beyond measure, and the plot was--whew.

Still, it's Sirtis, and as a fan of Trek actors and actresses I'll watch anything they're in at least once. :D

What can I say? It worked in the context of the show, and she was a good character. The show was not bad at all, which surprised me.

reply

The simplest scenario would be that Guran is a family name, much like Kit Walker is.

reply

It must have been quite a disappointment for Kit to find out that 2 of his organization were trators.

reply

The little Guran was the 21:st phantoms guide and mentor and every phantom before have had one so the 22:nd phantom got the first female guide, teacher and mentor even if vandermark or whatever was some sort of mentor as well.

reply

Was it just me, or did anyone else notice some sexual tension between Guran & the new Phantom? At least from her side?

(Caveat - I missed the first hour of the mini-series, so don't flame me if it was addressed there.)

reply

I see this Guran as a granddaughter the other Guran.

River: Don't worry, I'm quite the screamer. Now there's a spoiler for you!
