The Phantom Series?
So I guess SyFy is not turning this into a tv series then? I thought the tv movie was meant to be a backdoor pilot for a series?

It was meant to be a backdoor pilot, but that doesn't mean a series is DEFINITELY coming. That's what "backdoor" means. A lot of factors go into a movie being made into a TV series. Look how long it took between the Painkiller Jane movie with Emmanuelle Vaugier and the TV-series with Kristanna Loken.
shareI'm sure we would have heard something by now if they wanted to turn this into a series. It's not going to happen, let's face it guys.
sharePainkiller Jane movie-2005
Painkiller Jane TV series-2007
Never know.
Yeah, and they also made two different versions of Riverworld. However, if somebody's going to try the Phantom on TV again, I hope it's not Syfy, frankly.
shareYeah, and they also made two different versions of Riverworld.
Yea, but both "Riverworld" movies were ONLY movies. Neither one was made with the intention of spinning them off into a TV-series like "Painkiller Jane" or "The Phantom". You're comparing apples with oranges.
Not really. The recent Riverworld mini was a backdoor pilot, just like The Phantom. I suppose none of them did all that well in the ratings, sadly.
shareAfter doing a little research, I have realized we're both wrong. The recent Riverworld was JUST a movie. The 2003 movie, however, was a pilot. Not a "Back-door pilot", but an ACTUAL pilot for a TV series. The pilot didn't do well so no further episodes were made.
shareI hope there are mores stories from this "Phantom". I enjoyed the movie very much.
shareIt was a nice setup with good potential for more, but if there is never another one, at least this one felt complete on it's own.
shareWell, it did have a cliffhanger ending that we'll never see resolved now, which is a pity.
As for the Riverworld mini, I could've sworn I read RHI was interested in a regular series with the latest mini too, but I guess I remembered it wrong. Didn't look like a good mini anyway, though the concept is very interesting.
What I want now is a Region 2 DVD or Blu Ray release of The Phantom. It's deeply unfair that it's only available on Region 1 and 4 that I know of.
The US Blu-ray is actually region-free. I'm in Australia, and just finished watching the Blu-ray I bought from the States. If you wanna find out what US Blu-rays are region-free, check out regionfreemovies.com
shareI enjoyed this movie and wished it would have continued on TV. So is this a continuation of the original movie with this new Phantom being the 22nd Phantom as we met the 21st in the Phantom movie that came out in 96.
