Confusing

This movie is so freaking confusing. Like I get that Sam became a spirit, but I do not get like what Charlie is getting out of his journey? Like he was saying through out the movie how there has to be a reason for him to stay alive. Then when he saved Tess he felt like that was the reason. But really Sam and Charlie saved Tess because sam was the shooting star telling charlie where to look. So basically they are saying that Sam died because he was meant to help charlie later on, and have charlie risk his life for one girl. It just was stupid. I believe in god and how everything happens for a reason but this movie and probably book if it is similar to movie, did a horrible job at making an example of "Everything Happens for a Reason" and "there is a meaning in life. It was confusing at the end when he has the necklace that he had. Like does charlie have a special ability to communicate with spirits? Like i dont understand what i am supposed to be getting out of this movie. It was kind of boring, used a terrible story line for examples of religious beliefs, and really it seemed like they were trying to make you cry but I really didnt feel emotional but i did feel bored and no tears. This was kind of a review but I still have questions. First does Charlie believe he actually has a special gift or it was just a big experience? When Tess was back home after Charlie saved her and they were both talking near Charlie's new boat, what was she talking about with her vivid dreams? Like was this supposed to mean something about a sex dream? Or the image he saw that told him she needed help? Like im very confused. This movie was absolutely confusing for me and it made it very boring and frustrating to watch. I would just say that this is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Hopefully some of you could answer my questions. thank you in advance.

I know what you mean, to have to lose a life to save another life makes no sense. I explain it to myself in terms of homework. We all have homework to do in this life, and sometimes it helps someone, but that's not the real point. The point of the homework is some kind of spiritual growth.

Is it religious? Well, not in the sense of pushing a particular religion. It does reflect some sort of generic belief in an afterlife.

I do think Charlie has some sort of ability to see spirits, both of dead people and live ones in trouble. Others see him talking to someone who doesn't show up on their radar, and if he can find the girl he's not just hallucinating.

I don't think the film was sentimental, trying to make you feel overt emotion. It seemed more matter-of-fact about Charlie's sadness. Yes, he's sad, but he's also coping by staying close to his brother. You're not expected to cry over him, just understand why he made the choices he did.

I'm sorry you didn't like the movie. I did like it. I found it to be moody and atmospheric, speaking through mood and images more than words. It's a language I can relate to.
