Some thoughts and, 'the baby?' Spoilers!

I just watched this and it's hilarious. Considine's "Le Donk" is a cringe-worthy but wholly believable, tragi-comic character, even though he's obviously (unconsciously?) channeled Steve Coogan's 'Tommy Saxondale'. This creation apparently pre-dates Saxondale but both characters are individually funny in my opinion. When you consider it's mostly ad-libbed Scor-Zay-Zee is also no comedy slouch either. I actually thought it was James Corden when I saw the trailer but he's an actual rapper, a little reminiscent of the Streets' Mike Skinner, with a rapid-fire delivery.
Anyway, my question is, what was going on with the baby? Le Donk is supposed to rush home to see his pregnant ex-girlfriend bring her newborn baby home (she wouldn't allow him at the birth as she wanted it to be "calm"!) The baby in question is like, at least 3 months old? I thought maybe I'd missed something in the plot and she's borrowed the baby from someone to pretend it was his (this didn't make sense to me either!) as she was scared to tell him she wasn't really pregnant. When they made no reference to it, I was left confused. In the credits the baby is named as Finn Colman which would suggest maybe he's Olivia Colman's real life son, but I still don't understand why Meadows would think no-one would notice. Having written this, maybe he thought it wouldn't matter in the context of the film. And, it doesn't spoil anything, maybe I'm just being too anal and caring about details that, subsequently mean nothing.
It's a great film, (I'm a big Meadows fan)and I'm so glad he's made it as "Once Upon A Time In The Midlands" is a weak attempt at comedy. For anyone watching their first Meadows film, it's a treat, even though his usual film-making style is hardly evident here.

My take on the giant baby was that Olivia 'borrowed' the baby so that she could trick Le Donk into believing she'd given birth so that he wouldn't interfere with the actual birth. Either that or that was the smallest baby the crew could find in such a small space of time. Fantastic film all the same.

Don't think the boys gave a sh*t whether anybody noticed or not. The whole movie flew by the seat of it's pants. Good fun though.

Yeah, I think the film-makers just needed a baby and they got one. The whole thing was shot in about five days or something silly like that.

The idea of them borrowing a baby to keep Le Donk away from the birth seems a bit far fetched and totaly unnecessary. They had already arranged that he would not be there. They were going to call him afterwards.

They just cast a baby that was a little bit to old and thought people wouldn't notice/be bothered. I know I wasn't.

the scene with the baby and the scene where Le Donk and Scorz are trying to go to sleep were pickups. They did them a few months after they had filmed over a long weekend at the Arctics Monkey's gig. Scorz had shaved all of his hair off so that's why he s wearing a towel on his head and the baby is Olivia Coleman's actual baby -she was very close to giving birth when they were filming.

I saw it as a bit of a joke - it ties in with the weird clash of reality and fiction as it's Olivia Coleman's actual child, yet they were obviously aware of its unusually large size as they make a number of conscious references to it. If you watch the opening credits again, you'll see a huuuuge baby picking up Le Donk's van; it's also mentioned that the midwife said he was the largest newborn she'd ever seen.

No reactions to the kid saying ´yeah man´ ?

Not really from me, bc I couldn't tell if Baby was just gibbering or saying
'yeah man'...
If I was sure, I'd agree in a NYM! Peace, yo!
