I can't find the book. I searched the Swedish and English title and also the author. Looks like a really good movie. Plus it has Noomi Rapace whom I adore as Lisbeth Salander.

This is the Swedish ISBN No. 9100114006 and it is easy to buy on Swedish book sites (in Swedish) if you understand our language ;)

I don't know if the book has been translated into English. The international film title "Beyond" refers more to the film story which shows what happened after the book ends with flash-backs from the past (the book story).

True, but we don't really get to see how she came to be the person she was. I mean, yes, she is bitter and is trying to forget her past, but it would have been interesting to see where she went once she left her parents home. Did she continue swimming?

SPOILERS AHEAD:

I felt in some ways this movie was almost more painful than the book. though the book gives us a better insight into their misery, I just couldn't stop crying when they took away her traumatized little brother and he grew up to become a drug addict and dying of an overdose. And the her pain when she realized her mother was dead and she had missed it, left her to die alone.

This was a pretty powerful film. I like that it didn't follow the exact story in the book, but I felt it was too short and could have showed us more from her life.

I think Anakin Skywalker would be very proud of his mother's debut feature film as a director.

I didnt think it was powerful at all.
I kept asking myself.. WHAT is the point of this depressing movie?
I didnt get any feeling for any of the characters, just wanted it to be over!!
Noomi is NOT a good actress. Nor is her boyfriend.

I'm not sure what powerful would mean here, so I won't comment on this. But I liked the movie. The point? Probably depends on the viewer. For me personally the point that struck me the most came at the end - Leena's reaction to her mother's death.

It was a painful movie to watch. I was kind of angry at the parents, but as somebody said, it was difficult to hate them. They kind of tried, but it wasn't enough. Leena's reaction while meeting her mother, one of hurt and anger, seemed natural to me, I expected her negative emotions to be even stronger. Her reaction to the death of her mother was a surprise to me, but that's probably because I am a person I am. I would hold the mother responsible for the death of Leena's brother. She should not tolerate behaviour of her husband.

I have to see it and judge it for myself. It might not be a film for everyone. People have their own taste in films. I've seen films where millions love it, but then there are a few thousand who didn't care for it or didn't understand the film. That's just the way it is. Everyone has their own opinions. No one's opinion is wrong or right.
