2 Stupid decisions and 1 question
First stupid decision i couldn't explain:
Why in heck would Cesar hide his rape-kit not only in her flat but also in the mattress itself? That's making sure that she will know sooner or later, increasing the chances of ever getting caught. Why not bring everything with you? Would you bet your freedom on the off chance she won't lift her mattress one day when she's cleaning or redecorating? I know i wouldn't.
Second stupid decision:
Why the heck would the boyfriend confront an obviously disturbed person in such an amateurish way? Did he have a death wish? I mean, obviously and without hesitation, the first step is to call the cops, but if you want to play the tough guy, her being your GF and all, fine, but then take some freakin precautions! Would you really bet your life on the slight possibility that the guy is not completely crazy and that he is weaker than you, that you can overpower him whenever you will feel like it? I know i wouldn't. What was he doing to Cesar on the bed anyway? Trying to crush his head against a pillow? That's just useless in any version of reality, anywhere, anytime.
Question:
I notice we never got to know what Cesar had in store for Clara that day she came home with the BF. I can only imagine what twisted stuff he had in mind that night. What do you think his plan was, rape and kill? Probably.
Now that i think of it, it seems he had something planed that was out-of-character compared to the rest we have seen him doing and i find it hard to believe that after he made the decision to finally cross the line of barbarism (whatever he had planed), he would go back to his usual stalking. In my humble opinion, he is a serial-killer that doesn't know it. They often start this way, with smaller crimes and infractions (arson, larceny, petty crimes and/or sexual assaults, animal cruelty etc.) until fantasizing doesn't cut it anymore and they have to up the ante one way or another, which often means killing. Decreasing in intensity doesn't sound credible. Thoughts?
Anyway, all that being said, don't let this apparent rant fool you, i really enjoyed the movie and was on the edge of my seat about 10min in. Such an unusual story, slightly reminiscing of other works such as With a Friend like Harry... or The Lives of Others. Luis Tosar, the actor playing Cesar, is the perfect fit for the role, very convincing, almost charismatic and Clara is a pure delight.
7/10.
People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefs
