Terrible film! *spoiler*

I thought this was very scary...until the end. So he JUST GETS AWAY WITH IT?!
Horrible!!
I know not every film can have a happy ending, but seriously.

This woman was a way-trusting goofus, granted, but this ending did not work.
Awful.

I really like this film and I actually had no problem with the ending. However, my problem with this film is the rape(s). Wouldn't a woman know that she had sex? I know he drugged her, but even so.

I agree with the OP. Why should a villain get away in a movie? Does this make for a satisfying viewing? Why should I watch something like this for entertainment? There are far too many horror movies with unhappy endings. In real life, I hate seeing criminals getting away scott-free. Why should it be any different in movies?

reply

Most horror movies have unhappy endings, which is one reason why I rarely watch them. That said, in its own, twisted way, this one doesn't really end that unhappily: Cesar feels happy, purposeful and not suicidal for the first time in his life. Would the world be better off without him? Indubitably, but unless you think he's lying, and I see no reason to believe he is, you've gotta be at least partly sympathetic to a guy who's never felt happiness his whole life (until his latest experiments, that is).

reply

Um, no. No one should feel sympathy for him. He's a disgusting piece of *beep*

His happiness is no one's responsibility but his. He had no right to hurt (and impregnate!) & destroy others!

Because, like real life, a LOT of criminals get away, "scott-free".

Agreed, hated the ending.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

I didn't mind the ending but I thought the whole movie was kind of pointless because it lacked suspense. I didn't feel any suspense at all and just thought the guy is weird but he didn't come across as really creepy enough like for example Norman Bates in Psycho.

The exact same story could have been made way better and much more suspenseful. Maybe if we wouldn't have known from the start what he was doing but that something weird was happening to Clara, it would have achieved this. This way there was no real build up.
If in the beginning Clara would have noticed small changes like her skin problems or her noticing that something is missing like her watch, her maybe waking up a bit while being doped and just seeing a dark figure but then thinking it was just her imagination the next day etc. until we slowly realize what's happening would have been better in my opinion.
A Hitchcock or other great suspense director would have directed it better. Having said that, I really enjoyed the movie REC..

You missed the whole point. He said two times if i remember correct in the movie that he is happy only as long as people around him are unhappy. He thought he crushed her, destroyed her but he didn't. You can clearly see in the end on her face that she's devastated but not completely destroyed. Also, he said few times that he lack motivation to go throught life, after he finnished the 'job' with her, he's again misserable without anything in his life, i don't think that child will make him happy his whole life (after all, hes all alone again and without a child), he's fvcked and he did not win, so , ending is neither happy or unhappy, and he didn't won anything, he just escaped justice but he is not a happy person. In that context, he didn't win.

I thought it looked like he could have been in a prison cell in the end..?

reply

It's terrible because he got away with it? Lol

Come at the king, you best not miss.

reply

I'm sure he didn't. The ending is one of those ominous ending. For me maybe she sent the last letter with the diary to the police, they checked finger prints matched them then located the bastard, arrested him and that's that.
