Jesse Eisenberg is totally miscast.

This movie is really well made movie. The story, quality and everything well laid out. One problem for me is Jesse Eisenberg's voice doesn't really match up with Blu's expressions. I do like Jesse Eisenberg in Zombie Land but no, not for Blu. It should have been better with a older guy than Jesse with high voice. I mean it could level the movie up. Don't you think?

reply

Yes, my thoughts exactly! I guess they chose Jesse because he has a whiny voice and Blu is a whiny bird. But somehow it just doesn't fit.

reply

I like.

For a while I thought it was that guy that played McLovin in Superbad, he has the same kind of whiny voice...

But what voice would've been better though?

reply

A bit more adult voice would have been better. Not necessarily a deep voice a-là Morgan Freeman, but Jesse Eisenberg sounds like a teenager and Blu was a full grown "adult".

reply

Glad I'm not alone in feeling he is out of place in this movie. I find it distracting actually, and it brings the movie down a notch for me. I just don't think he has a good voice for animated films.

She belongs to you...You took her life and gave her a new one, a life extraordinary.

I thought it matched up well. The thought certainly didn't occur to me. There's always room for improvement though. Meaning another voice might have taken it over the top ;)

^ Hm...I agree with this... :/

reply

What I meant was, his voice matched up well with the character.

"The thought didn't occur to me"

What I meant by that was, his voice is not annoying to me. THAT thought didn't occur to me. Sorry for my vagueness :p This movie will definitely be a favorite within the children's section ;)

reply

No problem, I understand what you meant totally, and I agree with you! It's exactly the same for me. I loved this movie.

reply

I thought Jesse was miscast also...Somehow it didn't suit Blu to me and it was distracting...he didn't come off as a bird...probably shoulda been cast as human instead..

reply

I couldn't help but think of Jesse when he spoke, his voice really did not suit Blu.

I agree. The voice didn't match the bird at all and I kept thinking of Jesse Eisenburg instead of the bird every time it talked.

Younger fans wouldn't even know Jesse Eisenberg really well altogether anyway!

Everytime Blu talks and you hear his voice, they (kids) would adapt to it as a bird character, not seeing it realistically as Eisenberg (a human).

reply

I thought he was a good fit, though thinking of him as Jesse Eisenberg does shatter the illusion somewhat.

However, Hathaway and the rest of the cast did an excellent job, and even if his voice acting wasn't ideal, I personally thought Eisenberg had enough chemistry with the other actors that the dialogue never felt strained...which is pleasanly surprising in an animated flick.

reply

I have to agree. Eisenberg's voice was a poor fit for Blu...perhaps because it's so easy to identify and is EVERYWHERE, but I also agree that whenever the bird spoke and Eisenberg's voice came out, it felt like someone had thrown the wrong track on. Same with Will I Am's voice coming out of a little yellow bird singing. It just didn't look right to me and was completely distracting.

Signatures annoy me.
