Reels you in with cuteness, then rewards you with crappy story

The film charms and captivates its audience with its initial song and the extreme cuteness of the baby blue bird. As the movie progresses, however, the cuteness becomes less novel and the humor becomes more bland. In the end you realize you just watched an extremely stereotypical movie with all of the standard cliche plot devices (e.g. the evil villain's dumb minions).

Reminds me of the hoopla behind Despicable Me!

Loved parts of the OST, but I have no desire to re-watch the film.

Subtitles misread: 'the Arch bitch of Canterbury'

I agree it started out very good and he was so cute as a baby bird, but then it just got very predictable and I lost interest. I knew where it was headed and ending 30 mins in. It was okay.

I disagree. I was a bit turned off with the depressing beginning and I felt all the film's musical numbers didn't mesh well with the stories. It was when the story developed; the beautiful recreation of Rio—even in the slums—and the terrific accuracy the artists put into the birds is what made the movie for me. I'm a huge bird fan, so maybe I'm just the type of person to eat this kind of thing up. But I like to think I'm looking at the film overall from a more critical perspective than that; I thought the characters were well-developed and interesting. Aside from the music, my only other complaint was that it did get a bit too slapstick; it was like they were still trying to win the audience over even after making the right moves. Still a great movie that I'll probably revisit in a year or so, and I'll probably see the sequel opening day if one ever comes to fruition. 8/10

The songs were really weird too. They were Eurovision standard. They added nothing to the movie and were to generic.

In my honest opinion....this is not a movie I would watch again. But...it's..harmless. That's what I'll give it. It's a harmless movie for kids, and trust me, I'm far from being a person who thinks "it's for kids" is a valid reason for a movie to be dumb, or lazily written, or to try way too hard to be "hip." But as films go, this one...well, no one will be any worse off for having watched it.

The more people I meet, the more I get why Jane Goodall spends all of her time with chimps.....
