Does a chick flick exist that isn't complete garbage?

Just curious.

Well, there are a few chick flicks that are fun, but with a name like BoSoxRule, you really have ruled yourself out of any serious discussion. hehhe Just kidding!

Seriously, though, just because Kellan is cute - does that warrant his appearance in every movie known to man? What exactly is so compelling or special about him?

Additionally, Mandy Moore is seriously miscast. She is too meek and does not ring true as a psychologist; heck, she doesn't ring true as anything over a college freshman.

Lastly, Dermot Mulroney? Seriously? Who gave him more than 50 cents to direct a movie???????

Eh, I liked "In Her Shoes" and "Fried Green Tomatoes."

I agree with your fried green tomatoes and add Pretty Woman, Sweet Home Alabama, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones Diary, Love Actually, Under the Tuscan Sun, 16 Candles, Pride and Prejudice (both versions) and the list goes on.

Sadly those movies are only 1 out of every 10, means you have to suffer through a lot of crap before you find a gem.

While You Were Sleeping was good. Morning Glory was good too but it's not a romantic comedy, it's a workplace comedy.

I'm not sure what you mean. I did like both of those movies. While You Were Sleeping is one of my favorite romantic comedies. I don't like a lot of romantic comedies that are out these days. Morning Glory was a fun movie for me. I am in the news business so I can relate to the entertainment vs. news argument in the movie. It wasn't Oscar material but it wasn't supposed to be.

10 Things I Hate About You was good too.

Sorry if my taste isn't up to your standards.

10 Things I Hate About you is one of my all time favourites.

I thought it was a great movie. It was funny and romantic. Of course, it was a modern version of "Taming of the Shrew," so it should have been great. LOL.

I don't like a lot of the newer romantic comedies because they just don't seem very romantic or even real funny, like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days or The Ugly Truth.

I did like Hitch until the end when the "heroine" really does the hero wrong and it just didn't seem resolved to me even though HE chases HER down, when it should have been the other way around.

One of my favorite chick flicks is Dear Frankie. It's a bit romantic but that's not the focus of the movie. A mother has been faking letters to her deaf son, pretending they are from his father, who is supposedly on some Merchant Marine ship or something sailing all over the world. She has to get a stranger to pretend to be Frankie's dad when the ship she picked just happens to be in harbor. It's sweet and sad and funny. If you've never seen it, check it out.

One of my favorites is the miniseries Pride and Prejudice. Sigh.

yes.
'Something Borrowed' was really REALLY good. (though kate hudson ruined it a biiiit for me)
and i enjoyed 'Definitely, Maybe', too.

reply

really? i thought something borrowed was TERRIBLE. the characters were just so grossly despicable and i couldn't sympathize with any of them. cheating in and of itself is a difficult subject, and it was SO poorly executed in that film, i don't know HOW i sat through the whole thing.

The Holiday is really charming. I enjoyed it a lot too.

There's something here that doesn't make sense. Let's go and poke it with a stick.-Doctor Who
