I found it difficult telling them apart because of the hairstyle

They all have the same hair, and when it's a subtitled movie anyway, you don't spend too much time properly looking at the actors' faces. Plus with the foreign names it was hard to remember who was who.

No.

Exactly. The subtitles (which i like) do distract you from learning faces. And learning faces is important in this instance. The same hair-dos, similar faces, and difficult names made it challenging for me.

Before I watched the whole movie, I watched the first half 3 times to get it right.

Theres no doubt that it was distracting to learn all of them on a first watch, but i think the film made it clear and executed well to focus and develop the 5 or 6 most interesting characters among the assassins. The funny guy, the leader, his protege and the 1 with the waifu back home.

I personally had no problems this time with following all the important characters, there was no doubt with 13 people that some would be heavily underplayed.

I think a movie like the first "Infernal Affairs" in my case was harder to follow due to the extremely up beat cinematography and mind games/name memorizing which kind of left a unsatisfied feeling with the movie in my caase. This movie however was perfectly executed and used a long time and slowly introduced msot of the assassins in the early bit. But ye the hairstyles definitely didnt help lol.
