Why is the rating so low???

A 5??? Seriously, at WORST this movie is 7.

reply

This is just IMDB and people here dunno how to rate films. It is at an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes though, and the critical reviews are generally good to great. Not many bad reviews of the film. I think a 5.1 for a movie with no promotion and no hype is not bad on a site like IMDB. The film in the end will settle at around a 6.5 when enough sensible viewers have seen it and voted. That will take many months.

IMDB scores really are stupid.

If we went by them, then TDK is better than Gandhi, Saving Private Ryan and Seven...and Rocky.

Are you shills acting off a script or are you the same guy as Nunchux, ziggyzilon, etc...

I am making it my mission to expose plants like you.

Wow, someone has a little too much time on your hands. You are correct that I've only taken the time to review Limbo (a couple years ago) and Legacy recently. It's because I am a supporter of Imkimi's films and because these films are lacking attention...while other highly publicized films have hundreds of reviews. I don't see what the big deal is.

reply

It's a big deal because when you rate a film like this a 10, you lose all credibility. With so many films to watch, the first thing I look at is IMDB user ratings, because they are (for the most part) reliable. Then I look at user reviews. If I see a review with a 10/10 when the film has a 5/10 average, I look to see whether the source is credible. I completely ignore film critics.

So when I see something like this:

10/10
was shocked when I looked this movie up to see that its rating. For a film with a smaller budget it is excellent. Fans of The Wire will be pleased to see Idris Elba in a challenging role. Fans of Batman Begins/The Dark Knight, will recognize Joe Chill and Detective Ramirez. Eamonn Walker plays a sympathetic antagonist and brother to Idris Elba.

The film itself takes place after a failed mission and Malcom Gray (Idris Elba) holds up in a dingy apartment alone. As the film proceeds it becomes clear that not everything is what it seems. For a low budget psychological thriller, there is quite a lot of action.

Sadly, I think this movie is destined to be under-rated and under- appreciated. Give it a chance, you won't be disappointed.

I can immediately tell it's crap. And not only do you try to tell us that this movie is the very best of films, but you insult amazing films by making such a ridiculous statement.
It's also worded so apologetically, it's as though you know you're bloating the review and inflating the rating just in hopes of getting someone to watch it.

I hope this helps you understand why this is such a big deal and that films shouldn't be rated whilst looking through rose colored glasses.

This film had good elements, but the director failed to make it all come together. The acting was strong, the script was ok, the directing was terrible. Overall a four out of 10, or as I like to break it down, a 2/5.

You really need to read my comment to this debate. You are focusing on ONE element like the other guy but conveniently neglecting a lot of other elements. Like I said a film CANNOT control all critics, and fans and ratings and festivals and award shows. If you check this films history and look at the reviews, dates, locations and so forth, HOW on earth can they all be faked? Michael Moore was lying when he said the film was great in his opinion? Tribeca were lying as were Stockholm, Chicago and Raindance who said this was reminiscent of Nolan's debut at that same festival? That is a quote from their site and review of this film.

Look at the 24 professional reviews on the page from KNOWN and RESPECTED publications/sites and 70% of them are good while others are bad. It is simply impossible to fake that over the course of the year the film has been getting reviewed. The reality is that it is at a 5 because of people not knowing how to rate a film they dont understand or like. Your rating is FAR more reasonable of a 4 because you didn't care for it. That is a sensible review for a movie that has done what this film has done on the circuit. What irks me on IMDB is people trolling for shills rather than just posting their views and waiting for the shills to fade. The film has only about 400 votes as of now and the bulk are in the 6-7 range as I dont count the 10's or the 1's as few films are a 10 or a 1.

Face the fact that this film CANNOT be that low rated when that many cinephiles have praised it. That review you posted is one person's opinion and really does not sound any different to the kinds of reviews on indie films that few people know about. I find it fascinating the effort people go to in order to find conspiracy when facts stare them in the face. How you can take a 10/10 review and a movie then rated 5 and say that it means the review is bogus is NUTS. I rate Back To The Future a 10 but that is because it is my fave film. The overall rating has nothing to do with me calling it a masterpiece. That's my opinion. I consider Bicentennial Man an 8 out of 10 and does that make me a faker?

People need to chill. This film here is loved by A LOT of people and hated by A LOT of people. That is what filmmaking is about. It evokes a strong emotional response of either appreciation or derision. Let us respect each other's right to stand on either side of that fence and stop with this nonsense. Come on this board to discuss the film hate or like it rather than waste pixels with this back and forth over our right to have an opinion.

I like it, told a lot of ppl about it since it's on Netflix now and all

You are entitled to your opinion just as I am entitled to mine. I always found ratings to be rather arbitrary and pointless since an opinion towards a film is rather personal and every person has a different reaction. My 10/10 is my way of pulling up a rating that is INSANELY low for such a quality film. Don't like it? Well, that's shame because there's hardly anything you can do about it other than whining on these boards; go ahead if it makes you feel better.

It's because of BS reviewers like you that IMDB has become useless. I have read every IMDB review and almost all of them, including your review, stink of studio astro-turfing.

Interesting that the only other film you reviewed "LIMBO" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0435689/) is the only other film several of the other glowing reviewers for Legacy reviewed. And most of the others have ONLY reviewed this film.

You've been busted. Now cancel out your account and erase the evidence like a good little minion.

By the way, just watched the movie. it's a 3 at best.

Lmao, why does every imdb board have guys like this? Okay lets look at a few things:

1. You took the time to actually analyse and read every review and check accounts and come up with your hypothesis rather than just leave your review or rating and move on. That's just sad.

2. You neglect to acknowledge the reviewers that have reviewed other films. Fact is most of the reviews are good from viewers on the page whether they have or have not reviewed other films.

3. You don't acknowledge the actual critic reviews which CANNOT be faked and are on the page. All 24 of them. 85% of which are very good.

4. You don't acknowledge the rotten tomatoes rating that is good at 83% while I do think that will go down when more critics post and it evens out. Still it is at that percentage out of 7 reviews from known sites.

5. And this is the most common sense element. Do you realise how many people see a film and get told to support it if they like it by voting on imdb? Many people only ever vote or review one or two movies ever. I for one have heard many directors at film festivals tell audiences to do so if they like the film. Many people follow a director and vote on that directors films because they support them. I don't review for example but I post a lot on stallone movies because I am a fan and also Pacino films. That does not make me a shill. It makes me a fan. Trust me, shilling only goes so far and shill films are obvious by the fact no credible good reviews exist from critics and the films got no real world recognition. This movie went to top tier festivals last year and has great critical reviews along with bad ones. You saying Tribeca, Stockholm, Chicago or Raindance film fests were shilling for the movie too or they have no clue what a good film is so they let this movie in for a laugh? It is a love or hate picture. You hated it. All good.

I am just applying common sense here and not saying you are necessarily wrong, but you probably are as the locations and dates of the reviews from IMDB users, and all the above evidence etc would make it damn hard to fake all these posts and reviews. You did not like the film, but A LOT of people do. Hell it even has won awards.

Can't believe the film is this low...this is Bayformers territory and that film is an insult to cinema

They must have hired "Four Leaf Tayback" as technical adviser for the combat/tactical scenes. It took 5 minutes before I gave up on this movie. I even watched the same 5 minutes over and just had to turn it off. These soldiers are supposed to be Special Forces operators? Really? Standing in a circle and making all that noise arguing even after they "cleared" the structure which clearly they did not because 2 minutes later that idiot walks straight down the middle of the hallway, (holding his rifle UP with ONE hand mind you)and just sits and stares at the smoke bomb going off and then takes 3 rounds to the torso. What utter BS. It was like watching Tropic Thunder without the laughs. I want my 10 minutes back.
