Stupidest question of all time:

Is the premise of this story true? I mean do woman, back in the day, go into a physician, who have the sickness of hysteria, have their vagina manipulated to have an orgasm? In other words they were diagnosed as to being frustrated by sex?

I saw this in another film ROAD TO WELLVILLE with Mathew Broderick.

reply

Yes, they did.

That is unbelievable!

Thanks for your answer!

Playing doctor with the doctor. Freud was apparently having sex with his female patients. They'd call on him at all hours, hysterical from the heat. He'd excuse himself from his own bed chamber where his wife lay waiting or sleeping and run to the office where he'd get all tangled up in some horny woman's frilly skirts and undies. I had a doctor start fonding me once but this guy happened to be a ordinary general family physician. I got another Primary right away. He was gay. I am not

Good for you!

As others have answered, yes: but with one important distinction: they never referred to it as being "frustrated by sex". In fact, the sexual aspect was completely swept under the rug. The word "orgasm" was never used in this practice, nor would any doctor of the time have alluded to it.

The war is not meant to be won... it is meant to be continuous.

(reply to Dave1136) You know, they used to attribute all sorts of maladies on just being an "unstable" Woman...Hysteria...Hysterectomy..the REMOVAL of organs to remedy the hysteria. Crazy, Huh? In my lifetime, I have a friend who has been married 15 years, has 3 children, and says she has never had an orgasm. I am sure there were women like her back then, too...So this guy did a Favor by being curious enough to invent the vibrator. Maybe the men back then didn't even know a woman had a clitoris! Amazing how long it took the medical world to actually study sexual anatomy...

reply

The word 'orgasm' wasn't even coined until the 1950s by Masters & Johnson. Even doctors believed back in the Victorian era that (as they said in the film) "without penetration from the male member the female feels no pleasure at all". These doctors genuinely didn't realise that they were to all intents masturbating these women to orgasm as part of their 'treatment' for an imaginary complaint.

I love how nobody has mentioned the inaccuracy of the OP. It wasn't their vaginas being manipulated, it was their clitorises.

For the OP, if you don't already know this, I hope you learn what it really takes to please women. Hint: The French know. Unless you're not into women, then nevermind.

reply

I was just about to point out the exact same thing.
Please know the difference between the vulva, the clitoris, and the vagina.
cheers

They did mention inserting a finger, so it involved the vagina as well.

Dr. Dalrymple put his hand up more dresses than Frank Oz. He had to know what was going on.
