Best portrayal of a Sikh in Bollywood.

I really enjoyed this film. To me it was the best Indian film I've seen this year as it was different from usual Hindi films.

One of the biggest things that I enjoyed was Ranbir Kapoor's portrayal of Harpreet Bedi. He didn't play him like a typical Bollywood portrayal of a Sikh.
He wasn't stupid, he wasn't a comedian, he wasn't balle balle, he wasn't overly macho, he wasn't a drunk. He was just a normal person, just as Sikhs are. So Ranbir really did a top notch job, kudos must also be given to the writers for bucking the trend and treating Sikhs like normal people. Let's hope other filmakers do the same in the future. But I won't hold my breath as this seems like a non mainstream type of film.

Thats exactly what i wrote in my review about the movie. The most authentic and controlled portrayal of Sikh in Hindi Cinema till date.
I am sure that both Chopra's (Yash Chopra) and Kapoor's (Neetu Singh Kapoor)punjabi background is responsible for this proud work.
Way to go Ranbir...

I don't think so. Due should be given where it's due, and in this case it's nobody else than Jaideep Sahni and Shimit Amin.

There was no intention to take the credit from the brilliant writer-director duo. But I am sure that personal suggestions from the team made the look more real. Moreover Jaideep's delhi background would have also helped a lot in the look. But surely they both deserve all the credit.......thats for sure.

I'd like to add that Chopras and Kapoors have portrayed Sikhs in their past films and they contributed to make the stereotype that this film breaks!

indeed, i'd like to add that the Kapoors are hindu punjabi's who came from Lahore. Neetu Singh is a Sikh..so actually Ranbir Kapoor is a half Sikh Half Hindu Punjabi. It's only natural for him to shine in such a role.
