This is a film with BALLS

Without spoiling the movie, I must commend the film-makers on this one. Wow. What a ballsy movie. Loved it

I'm a little afraid to watch this movie...but, without being too spoilerific can you just sort of say how the movie has balls?

Alternatively, is it closer to The Shawshank Redemption or Felon?

Without spoiling too much by naming names or when or why it happens in the movie, these are the acts of violence that occur in R;

A man's head gets bashed repeatedly on some stairs. I've seen some very violent and nasty films and this scene ranks pretty high up on the chilling charts. You don't get to see a whole lot, like say Irreversible, but "less is more" definitely works here.

There's another part at the end but I'd rather not say anything about it because it's pretty easy to spoil. But it's definitely nowhere near as bad as the previously described scene.

Actually those are the only scenes that I'd say are worth warning about, there are some other smaller moments of violence but nothing the average crime/action film fan will be shocked by. The entire film has a depressing and taut atmosphere but not up to a point where it's too hard or unpleasant to watch. If you've seen anything by Gaspard Noe or Michael Haneke, you'll be all right.

I only know Shawshank Redemption. And it has absolutely nothing to do with that feelgood movie. It might be pretty realistic in showing how it is to be locked up with a bunch of psychos though.

Whilst the Shawshank Redemption had an uplifting ending, it wasn't exactly a "feelgood" film. R just paints prisons, their inmates and their staff all with the same bleak, washed out colours and look. IMO, it all becomes a little too negatively predictable, but is still compelling viewing.🐭

Agree! This is the film The Prophet could look like if it had balls. Realy black, pesimistic, exempt any climbing-up-the-leathers pathetic, beautiful display of prison cruelty and brutality of established hierarchy - there is now opportunity for redemption - once inside you have a little chance to walk out liberate of your sins.

Great, great movie, unjustifiably placed in the shadow of - comparing to this one - naive Prophet!
