This is what I hate about modern horror movies

I miss the days when you could expect a resolution at the end. Maybe everyone didn't survive, and those who did may not have been unscathed, but the evil could be expected to be somehow defeated. These days, they all seem to end with me asking myself: "Why did I bother?"

Some examples of what I call a good horror movie:
The Changeling
1408
Witchboard
Fright night
The lost boys
The Stand...

I could go on, but generally speaking, most of the horror movies these days don't make me care about or identify with any of the characters.
There are some exceptions..."Cabin in the woods" was an instant classic even though nothing was defeated... but I cared about the characters.
"The Conjuring" had it's good point as well.

Maybe I'm from a different era and it takes a lot to scare me.

Late addition i know but i couldnt agree more. Im tired of this trend, two recent (modern) horrors i saw played out exactly like this: unlikeable characters, evil wins.
The Changeling is a great example of horror done well as is cabin in the woods and fright night - all of which take you on a journey and are well worth the time.
Hopefully this new, desolute style of horror ends soon

I agree. I cannot stand it.

Very lazy (I can't be bothered ) writing evident in this film. Nothing at all unusual to be seen.🐭
