Am I the only one who really liked this movie?

I just finished the film and can honestly say it was very creepy and kept me on edge right until the end.

Although it borrowed from other films - namely the scene of Kayako coming out of the dryer - it also showed me things I've never seen done before, such as the scene where Kelly and Ben find a bunch of furniture molded into the ceiling and walls of the house or the scene where Kelly nails the laundry room door closed only to find herself trapped within the same room.

The acting was fine and was like that of a typical horror movie. Characters scream and say stupid things. But I didn't really expect anything of them other than to be entertained; which I was.

I just don't see why everyone (literally everyone) hates the film. It's really not that bad when put up against other recent films like Paranormal Activity 4 or Grave Encounters 2, which I consider far worse in terms of quality but are getting better reviews.

7/10.

Not everyone hates it, I liked it. I can't say I was THAT thrilled with it though, as I was expecting something much different given the film description!
And the story drags a good bit, even for someone like myself who loves a film that actually takes the time to tell a story.

The ending was similar in a slight sense to "In the Mouth of Madness", both endings chilled me to the bone because of their implications.
The ending/look on the girl's face at the end of this film stayed with me after the film was over.
Long story short, a film with some creepy moments & very creepy ending...but it just didn't come together as cohesively as it could.

I liked the movie too, and I liked the plot (it had much more potential) also and It wasn't as unoriginal as I expected due to the reviews I've read here prior of seeing the film. In fact it had some pretty fresh ideas, you don't see actually in haunted house films. Like the things the OP already mentioned and the scene with the bed sheets nearly smothering the girl was nicely done for example...
+ I never heard of the real Philip experiment that took place in the 70s... interesting stuff. In the movie it has a fictional name, the charles experiment... Philip, Charles hehe, I just noticed, are we hinting at the British princes here?

I gave it 7/10, just because I couldn't give it 6.5/10

But for me 6.5/10 sounds about right :)

A 7? You know the score is out of ten and not 100 right? 7's are for movies like Paranormal Activity and Insidious, that have decent plots and decent scares. This was a 4 at best! If this is a 7 then 10 is too low for films like "The Sining"

You lot need to watch more horror movies.

Wasn't great but it was a thousand times better than this horrible piece of crap!

I also found it quite enjoyable. And I thought it had a Poltergeist-feel to it.

I liked it. The characters were likable enough considering the minimalist material the actors had to work with, the final scene was perfect for all the complaints about the ending.

It is too short and could've used more detail on the entity and what it's done throughout the years, much better than its reputation makes it out to be though.

I actually really liked the Ring/Grudge type ghost scene. I got the impression the demon was taking the appearance of what people in modern times think of when they think of ghosts/spirits, which these days is that Ring/Grudge look, and it made her see a dead version of herself in that form. It was a good way of showing the way the spirit observes and plays with the human mind.

Nope I'm with you I thought it was great too, one of creepier movies and more original than anything I've seen in a long time. I love horror movies and I have seen them all since the very first ones back before sound! And I can't even count n my hands the ones that have creeped me out, so the fact that this one did is pretty great. Acting was a little forced but didn't take away from the movie much, and I was over it and into the movie by the 10 minute mark. Overall I thought it was pretty good and different. I think people don't like what they don't understand and If something isn't fully spelled out for them in shiny huge letters then they say its a bad movie! Just like a poster on another subject I just saw laughing about the nailing herself in the laundry room and saying how funny it was and not scary and what a dope! Which I found hilarious bc that person is the dood bc they completely MISSED that she did NOT nail herself IN the laundry room she was on other side and then somehow ends up in there! Which is the point, how'd she get there and that was pretty creepy' but I guess if you are a complete moron and you miss things like that then yea you'd think. A movie sucked and was dumb bc they are dumb and everything was explained perfectly for them! No one likes movies where you have to think and derive your own interpretations from them anymore! So sad bc only the stupid idiotic movies get noticed and so no one wants to make a good movie bc it'll flop!

This movie was a complete mess.

I really liked it; didn't even notice there was no gore. That's what a good horror film does: scares you even absent blood and gore. I wanted to see more.

I thought it was pretty good.
