That's it?

I know this movie is "amazing" to a lot of people, but I can't use that word with this movie. The last IMAX film I saw was 10 years ago and I expected much, much more from this movie. Slightly disappointed here.

The good stuff:

Floating in space while the stars were flying by was cool as was the shot of the Hubble locked to the shuttle and the astronauts working on it.

The water tank training scene was neat in 3D.

Not as good/could have been better:

Dicaprio not exactly a good narrator.

Using too much "filler" footage of non-IMAX video and trying to make it 3D. The helmet cam was just grainy video as was the rocket booster scenes.

They should have IMAX'ed the sh!t out of the shuttle launch, but all we get is sort of a fisheye lens view. The crowd scenes get sharp, clear IMAX footage, but the launch didn't. How about turning on the IMAX cameras inside the shuttle to show how the crew is tossed around during launch? How about coming up with better video of the rocket boosters and getting out of earth orbit. I've seen better Apollo footage than this and that was over 40 years ago.

Lots of stuff missing here to be fully blown away. Are the IMAX cameras to big or too costly to get lots of great footage? They seemed to use it sparingly in the movie.

agreed. me and my girlfriend were really psyched to see this (she's a big space nut), but were highly disappointed. we wanted to see what the Hubble sees, in glorious CGI-enhanced immersive IMAX 3D. what we got was 10 minutes of that (which was amazing) and 30 minutes of boring, poorly shot (for the most part) footage about astronaut life. we get it, NASA. you guys have an interesting job. but frankly, we've seen it all before, many times, including (and especially) the IMAX doc's from the past.

You have to understand.. this movie was based on a single 11 day Space Shuttle mission in May 2009. A lot of that was just EVA's and RMS operations and launch of course.

And also, I find the stuff like Spacewalks, and the launch very cool.

Same here. I missed this on my local IMAX cinema, but I finally managed to rent it. And based on the great reviews it had received then, I was expecting something really extraordinary and was totally disappointed.

You learn more about space watching Gravity than this.

Well, the IMAX 3D camera is enormous, so the camera itself must have been a limitation.

yeah I was disappointed as well.

Still, the 10 minutes of floating between the galaxies was worth the money for the bluray.
