The Reporter Story

Without a doubt, the stupidest woman who ever lived. How could someone so ambitious, who seemed to be on the path of success, be such a complete idiot?

This story, to me, was the weak link in the film. The chain of events in her story was just ludicrous. And the whole thing with throwing away her career to chase down this young man, who couldn't have been more forthright with the fact that he didn't want to be bothered, just defied comprehension.

Kyle finally clued in that he was on the verge of being replaced when the new boy was brought in to work the cameras and thought this could be his chance to get out of the life, but then Nora seemingly turned her back on him. He lost her trust in a way so he probably decided he was better off with the devil he knew.

Aside from this being one of the five most depressing movies I've ever seen - someone's committing suicide, dealing with a dead wife, a dead baby or a dead mother - the reporter story was absolutly horrible and unconvincing. Her motivation for the majority of her decisions are unexplained because they're so stupid you couldn't possibly begin to explain them with any logic. At first she's presented as some kind of competent journalist and then she's inviting this kid over to her house, and for what? Sex? Nope. Not even sex, which would be the only plausible explanation. She invited him over to celebrate? What is he celebrating exactly? Why would he join in? Why would she ask him? It's just stupid. And then the kinda, sorta boyfriend just decides to leave them alone when this sex toy kid stops by late at night?

And then she becomes so worried about his welfare, but not really too worried because she won't let him stay with her, because, ya know, he has nowhere to go, and she didn't figure that one out before she got there. And her big dramatic moment is getting an open hand push to the ground? Between the Skarsgards pulling guns on each other the melodrama couldn't have been any higher and any dumber. This is an unlikeable movie. I can't believe it has such a high rating.

And, for the life of me, I will never understand why a director thinks it's a good idea to put the camera in the next room over as the characters are in a different room talking... And sometimes with their backs to the camera and half the screen cut off because the director is more focused on the molding of a doorway.
