One of many powerful scenes in this film. I was please fly surprised on the all around quality of Disconnect.

reply

no i dont think so, i just checked.

reply

Yea was very nicely done.
Do you maybe know the name of the song that played during that part?

reply

I thought the song was 'Tornado' by Jonsi (Sigur Ros)

No prob , just wanted to share this amazing piece.
Yea the song makes the scene even better.

reply

If you liked that one, you should listen to the "mashup" with Dina Washingtons "Bitter earth", the one that's in Shutter Island. It's freaking amazing :D

reply

wow, I thought where did I read that... and it was in the end credits of "Arrival".
Saw it a couple of hours ago.

here's a cap. See it before February 20 😛

i thought bateman was gonna hit the kid on the head with the hockey stick. and the slow mo of the girl getting punched and her head hitting concrete was great camera work.

I believe they wanted us to court the possibility of one or all of these stories ending in tragedy! I think that is often the case in these kind of movies - they end in absolute tragedy - I mean I was sitting there expecting to leave the theatre with horrible sadness - however they left us with a sense of hope(Boyd), a sense of reality & closure(Hull) and a sense of reality & failure(Dunham). Very much a cautionary tale..

reply

I think that you saw failure with Dunham's situation but I don't think it was failure in an absolute sense. The kid was doing what he liked and was happy even though you may not agree with the outcome.

reply

He only said he liked what he was doing and was happy. Many people in that situation say they "like" what they are doing - it's a way to try to convince themselves, and others, that there is nothing wrong with what they are doing. If he was happy with what he was doing, why was he considering leaving? He only decided to stay where he was at because what he had hoped would be an escape for him didn't pan out, because he got a sense that she didn't truly care about him.

Never had a drink that I didn't like; Got a taste of you, threw up all night

reply

He was considering leaving because he was only going to get older. He saw this when the 15 year old came in.

reply

I completely agree!
I was just talking about this with my girlfriend... haha.
Five minutes ago.

I think the scenes would've been a lot more powerful if the characters ended up dead after the slow motion scenes. But at the moment it was an amazing scene.

reply

No, that would be just cheap to kill them off, a good finale in an episode movie don't need to do that. You can spot real talent when the "aftermath" is handled well without just kill some people. Look at 'Magnolia'. And I dare compare this movie to it. Amazing scene it was for sure, but what happened afterwards was much more engaging.

Btw, is it just me or is Alexander Skarsgard always the best actor in the movies he shows up in ('Disconnect', 'What Maise Knew', 'The East' and even *beep* 'Battleship'). He is incredibly good.

I love him,and I guess his breakthrough is finally happening by staring in some major movies!

Back to the scene:I freaking LOVED IT!One of my most favorite scenes ever!
I balled my eyes out when Jason swung the hockey stick on the kid,I was like "No FREAKING way!!"..Had he been hit badly, the reporter busted her head, either of those three got shot...glad NONE of that happened!

reply

This scene is now on youtube.

reply

Yeah, it was nicely shot. Not very original though (See the end of "Crash", 2004, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0375679/?ref_=sr_2).
And the script is great too, but not very original either (See "Love.net" 2011, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1705120/?ref_=sr_1).
This being said, I would rather watch Disconnect than Love.net. The acting is so much better. Disconnect or Crash? Equally good.

Great scene, I thought that under the dome kid was going to get his head bashed in by the hockey stick. When he blocked it with his hand, it looked like his head was going to smash against the stairs.

I thought Harvey was gonna kill the female reporter, thought he had a knife or something. All he did was punch her- then it looked like her head was gonna smash on the ground and kill her.

I didn't think anything would happen with that stolen identity couple and frankly, I didn't care too much for their storyline.
