I feel cheated*Spoilers*

I kept at the movie waiting for the "horror" to come but it turns out it was just this random guy Anton killing with no apparent motive anyone who happens to walk in the woods. I mean come on anyone can make a movie with mindless slashing scenes. By reading the plot summary, I was expecting the climbers to run into a hidden, ancient tribe of indians who do human sacrifices or something. But really this was some really lazy writing. A guy who kills just for the fun of it.

So when Luke gets almost shot with the arrow, he just starts running off without taking the arrow so the bad guy can't use it again?

After Luke locks up Guillame in the cellar, he sees Anton busy fighting with Chloe. So why does he just run away? Why doesn't he get the flare and burn Anton in the face???

That character Luke is such an idiot. When he and Anton are fighting at the end, they just seem to be rolling around the ground hitting each other. Just push him off the cliff and kill him!!! He had so many chances.

So I guess when you're in the middle of fighting the bad guy and he's not even dead the best thing to do is to go down a rickety ladder when the bottom is like a thousand feet below? I thought after his rope went loose in the beginning he'd never go near a cliff again? And Anton just disappears all of sudden. He could've totally just pushed Luke off and killed him.

So when it's a life or death situation all Luke can think about is killing off the competition and leave Guillaume to die? Like Chloe's going to just leave without him. At that point I thought Luke was one of the bad guys who was killing off his friends.

So your last paragraph you understand that it is a life and death situation...so why are you even asking all those questions? Being in a life and death situation pretty much explains everything you just asked. These people and Luke especially are not trained military soldiers. They aren't thinking tactics and strategy as they are scared out of their minds running for their lives. A Navy SEAL may have taken the arrow out of tree, lost the hunter, create a fake trail and double back to a hiding place and slit Antons throat.....but not frikkin Luke.

Between a Navy SEAL and Luke there is a lot of middle ground! I did like how the French filmmakers were unafraid to show a French protagonist fulfilling our stereotype expectations, ha ha. But seriously, he was a douchebag. I don't understand why he was even on this trip. This was a life and death situation BEFORE the sh$& hit the fan! Dumb move bringing him along. But what do you expect from dumb characters?

Overall I rated this an 7. Bc of the atmosphere and tension of the beginning. The climbing scenes were extremely well done, I thought. (I'm not a climber.) However, I feel the film began to lose its way when it started to rain. And once you find out it's in fact just a single lunatic responsible for this, and you see how ineffectual and unintimidating he is, it's past the point of no return. And while Luke's self-serving douchbaggery are believable, so much else is not that it sucks you out of the movie. Like: the fact that Anton kills so many people and nobody knows, that Fred would allow Luke to come, that these people weren't extra extra careful of traps and such, how Chloe was willing to risk her and William's lives to save Luke after his constant douchebaggery to Fred, William, and even her, and OF COURSE how not only does Anton survive a throat-slitting he manages to cut steel with a tiny knife!

I agree with all your points about Luke, he was a terrible terrible character and he totally ruined the movie for me. Although, the whole thing about Anton is that he a feral child, he's not killing for fun he's most likely killing for food and the fact that he seems to have been raised in the wild (by whom, I don't know) since he was kidnapped at the age of 5 it was probably most of his life that he had been like that.

only YOU can prevent PG-13 slasher films
