As bad as it gets!!!

Just finished watching this pile of junk...I think I'm actually going to ask for my money back, seriously!!!
It starts off looking not all that bad besides the bad acting, which sure isn't a good start anyway...the mountain scenes were cool and the first part of the movie, which should have been the premise to the action, was actually the best part....then it just goes downhill literally…..it goes down The hills have eyes path and Texas chainsaw massacre and Wrong Turn, but without even being as half as good as the worst of these three……and that’s saying a lot because besides wrong turn, the other two, suck as well…..(considering the remakes here)
“Possible spoiler”
At one point we have one of the dudes behaving as a complete criminal and then as a coward and you really want him to die at that point, but suddenly they want him to become a hero by going back from where he escaped and throwing a stone at the villain…….ehm….why? doesn’t make any sense at all since he also starts running off again like a chicken as soon as the villain starts chasing him…..if he didn’t go back to fight and behave like a man, then why even bother to go back at all?
Real people do not behave like that…a coward is a coward and he won’t just stop at one point and start being a hero for no reason…..stupid movie, stupid characters and awful script…actually, I take that back since there practically is no script to begin with…

Agreed. Not a lot of good things going for this movie. The biggest problem being the lack of empathy for these characters. They go to a dangerous off limits mountain, then we're supposed to feel sorry for them when bad things happen?

Bad writing, poor plot turns, annoying characters, and what might be THE most cliche villain in movie history. Although to be fair, the mountain/scenic shots were well done...

What? You don't make any sense. So, if a character in a movie goes off doing something that potentially could be dangerous, then you can't feel sorry for them? Are there any action/horror/thriller movies when this does not happen? That means you don't care what happens in Descent (they shouldn't explore caves), Alien (they shouldn't be in space, it's dangerous), Batman (trouble seeker), Titanic (if you go on a boat, it might sink), Edward Scissorhands (he should understand the world isn't ready for him) and so on.

Most idiotic comment I've read here.

Regarding the movie, I thought it was fine. Acting was decent, a bit melodramatic but better than most horror movies (though that doesn't say much).

Don't assume. It makes an ass out of u and me.

No, you missed the point entirely. The mountain in this is SPECIFICALLY off limits because it's dangerous. In the descent they're in a cave as a group that's not closed off. Same with Alien, they were SUPPOSED to be there actually. Titanic was an accident, one you can't see coming.

Going to an off limits mountain then getting into trouble is very different. It ruins any chance of empathy we have for the characters. Hopefully that cleared things up...

So true! It starts out ok but then its really downhill all the way. We have all seen this before. If only the film makers could rely on themselfes and focused on the climbing parts. But offcourse there had to be a mad retard involved. IDIOTS!!!

The first half was not too bad as a climbing movie, with some very nice scenery and cinematography.

One might believe someone stepping on an old bear trap but from that point on it becomes beyond absurd. These folks discover two hidden traps and respond by running around in the woods at night, rarely looking down, almost as if they want to see if they can fall into any more traps. On top of it, they rope together on a fairly long rope at night; yet the rope never gets snagged on the ubiquitous trees -- how likely is that? It implies they are running around in the woods in a straight path, never deviating from the next person in line's pathway. If that's the case, what is the point of the rope in the first place?

The second half of the movie is a complete waste of time

reply

The point of the rope was to hold on to it incase they fell into any traps and the others could pull the person back up.

I HATED this movie so bad I stopped watching it midway- I RARELY do that. I HATED ALL the characters! I esp hated Luc- the whiny little *beep* who goes on a mountain climbing expedition and yet is afraid of heights! and yet is not afraid to start *beep* with another man who is 3x his strength over some forgetable woman!

I actually liked that the film did this, IMO it helped to set it apart from similar American films. I don't believe in a Hollywood film that a character would do what Loic did. A Hollywood film would most likely not allow it's characters to have hidden depths, or to act irrationally (not IRL irrational, I mean going against standard film stereotypes) for fear of confusing the American audience, as most film studios seem to think that their audience is made up of A Grade imbeciles.

I was really suprised by Loic's actions at first, especially running and leaving his girlfriend in the hands of Anton. If this happened in a Hollywood (or British, or Australian, or Canadian etc....) film, Loic would have run off and been killed accidently or at the hands of another killer. By allowing him to have a change of heart (although to be honest, when the flare ran dry, he didn't have much choice), the audience then has to reconsider it's thoughts of "I hope he dies" ( which I was also thinking) The same could be said of Guillerme letting go of Loic and letting him fall to his death - an American film would be unlikely to allow him (the closest thing the film has to a hero) to be anything but a true, brave action hero.

I completely agree with you that the film is very similar to Wrong Turn, Hills have eyes etc.... but I guess I just liked it more than you did, it's a shame you didn't enjoy it.

The only real criticism I have about your post is the typical tired "I want my money back" argument. When you hire/ buy a DVD or especially when you purchase a movie ticket, you are paying for the right to watch the film, not to enjoy it. Everyone won't like every film, but asking for money back on every film you dislike is quite puerile. You pay for the right to see the film, and if you don't like, it's a shame but it's also your bad luck.

Horrible Horrible movie. I give it a 2 out of 10. To the last poster I love The Hills have Eyes and Wrong Turn but loathed this movie.
