ending was absurd and idiotic

She doesn't kill the bastard, who just murdered ALL OF HER FRIENDS, and dozens of other innocent people, because she feels sorry for him!? WTF. So stupid! Horrible ending.

... and the stupidest of all is that bad guy with a half slashed throat who will get up and go with his little knife to cut a 4cm thick steel cable in less than a few minutes (what it should take to cross the gorge on the tyrolienne).... Mouarf !!!!
And of course, I'm not counting all the other stupidities of the movie...

I completely agree with both of your post.

Spoiler alert! But then the thread title does state it is about the ending!;)

I just saw this and I got to agree. Some of this film was okay, but man the ending just drove me nuts! How many films do the characters go about taking out the bad guy and then don't follow up and see if he/she/it is really dead. She did see he was somewhat alive in this case and still walked away. I would of rolled the dude right of the cliff myself! Of course in such a weakened state he still could cut a cable!? Yeah I do have to wonder what the writer or writers were thinking.

People in slasher/horror movies have never seen a slasher/horror movie :-)

The movie maker tries to tell you she was a doctor and she saves lives, not kill them; so she was ok to sacrifice herself so ANTON could just survive and kill and eat more. Yes, this is a good try to fool us.

Agree, agree. Rubbish writing. Haven't yet found any negative post on the board that I don't agree with. The dropping of the knife next to the live killer.. I know it's meant to heighten tension in the viewers' mind ("Don't do that! He's still alive!"), but for any viewers over the age of 10 it amounts to another boring admission that the makers had no inspiration or dramatic feel that might appeal to more sophisticated viewers.

HOWEVER,...
there was a brief moment when I thought the ending had salvaged some shred of value from the overall disaster: it was the abrupt change of tone and mood, switching from violence to peace, when the girl sails out across the void on the aerial cable. I thought, ok, she's the one survivor, and it reminded me of Ripley sleeping in her capsule at the end of Aliens. If the film had ended there,...

Unfortunately, the director seems to have had so much on his plate planning and executing his rushed logistical scramble in difficult locations that he forgot to think too much about the things that keep viewers interested.

I definitely wasn't "rooting" for Luke. I was sick of his whining and crying and being a baby. And when he knocked William down the stairs and locked the door. And when he ran out of the cabin after his girlfriend was getting beaten up. I wanted him to die. I'm so glad William let him go. Stupid cry baby Luke.

What I think is that she's a nurse so maybe that's why she walked away she didn't wanna stoop to his level jmo

reply

Yes, because ripping his throat wide open with a thick blade was a very humanitarian, nurse-like way to get her point across to the bad guy that she was above his kind of behaviour. :p

I saw the ending differently... somewhat. It seemed like she wounded him pretty bad, spurting blood out of his throat... he's pretty much a goner anyway, so she chooses not to go full caveman on him and instead just goes for the slide.
I also didn't take his picking up the knife ( it was Anton that picked up the knife, we're sure on that?) to imply that he cut the cable. Instead I took the montage of snapped bridge and guide wires to suggest that the slide was already sabotaged... that Chloe would have been doomed even if she had killed Anton.
Still... according to the end notes her body was never found... and I suspect there was more going on than just Anton (the drawings in the cellar suggest some sort of cult).

reply

No I'm pretty sure we are supposed to think that Anton cut the bridge. And then maybe he patches himself up and survives and takes all their bodies back to his lair and because none of them are ever found. Terrible ending.

reply

I too want a knife that cuts through steel cable like it was butter.lol
