I found the end of the film very depressing. Admittedly I was feeling a little low when I watched it and never realised that it was a Mike Leigh film until afterwards, that would have been a clue.

Tom and Gerri seem to be very happy together and doing really well in their lives, but all of their friends and relatives seem to have problems.

The final scene left me feeling that there was no hope for one of them.

I did feel for Mary at the end but it would be up to her to change and not be clingy to her friends. In the big scope of things, Mary was a "taker" rarely "gave".
