Francis

Anyone else spend half the film wondering when the real villain would come along?

I had come to expect a high quality of villain from my Marvel films. Francis was just some dick of a guy, no charisma, no development, and wasn't scary at all, and he definitely wasn't awesome.

Now that gave me a good chuckle there hehe

who was Francis really?
just an employee, not a boss, right?

reply

Not really. It was a revenge/save the princess movie. Not a blockbuster save the earth type movie. I'm amazed people still want that after marvel made like twenty of them in a row

I love Marvel but if there's a thing lacking in the movies are memorable villains.

reply

I agree. Weak villain. There were no memorable attributes about him.

The whole point of the film is that it's low key.

It's making fun of the big dumb super hero movies where the hero fights the villain on top of a building at the end.

Deadpool isn't about being a Marvel blockbuster; it's about making fun of them.

Never got the whole "Marvel lacks good villains" criticism, although on my first viewing of Deadpool I was surprised by how "meh" Francis was to me.

I did, however, end up appreciate his character. He isn't one of my favorites, but for a movie that's so incredible self-aware, his ultra-serious-non-flashy-villain is basically part of the joke.
