A movie more for adults?

My 16 year old daughter and I watched The Pirates! Band of Misfits last night on Starz. We both thought it was really funny and in a few places we were laughing so loud that my son, who was in bed already, came down and yelled at us for waking him up. The one thing both of us commented about was that the level of humor seemed a bit more targeted to an adult audience. In fact, in a few places my daughter wondered how they got what they did or said into what was supposed to be a children's movie. We took it at what it was...a cute, funny weird little movie. It looked very much like the typical Aardman film, and they are always a bit unusual and off beat. Knowing that, my daughter and I just sat back and enjoyed the weirdness and silliness. We plan on watching it again to catch more of the jokes; we especially loved the closing credits.

This is certainly adult animation.
And I love it because it is.
Children wouldn't get the Dodo, Jane Austen and The Elephant Man stuff, and there's so much more I can't even remember. Also , the background incidentals, which anyone can miss.

Who's your fat friend?

The movie was made for adults and children as all Aardman movies are, there's something for everyone.

The sign of a well written and directed animated family film is that although it's aimed at children there's enough gags and references in it for adults to find it funny as well. Most of the gags the adults would laugh at tend to go over the heads of the younger audience members

I thought the hot air balloon reference was definitely for adults... But it was all funny none the less
