Right at the beginning of the movie, the elf scans the kid and it comes up naughty, so he scans his own face just so the machine can come up with "nice" so he can give him presents. Isn't this going against everything santa stands for? My kids are gonna watch this thinking its ok to be naughty now cos they'll still get their presents :P

Besides, it's made clear that the elf is breaking the rules of his job by doing that.
I suspect that once Steve becomes head of Operations in the North Pole, that elf was put before a tribunal and found guilty
The poor little guy's probably been taken off active duty on field missions and is mucking out the reindeers' stables as we speak.

As some people have pointed out, movies and real life are different. Also I don't think that's a good way to get them to be good anyway, they should be good for the sake of being good not because they'll gain material objects for it especially as it arises from prosperity theology which is a very harmful concept.

I thought it was real sweet of him, it melted my heart. His "nice" level should have been higher since he didn't want the kid to have nothing and broke the rules to make sure the kid got a nice Christmas anyway. That was so so so sweet. :3
had you watched movie to the end you would realised that the elf was right all along because the message of the movie was that everyone deserves love, whether they were naughty or nice.
