Well bad news: seems like we are on the same level of quality as season 2. This time Russian mafia is involved. We'll see how it evolves but looks like once again the story will have nothing of Olivier Marchal's special touch.
I can't remember how Season 2 ended - Do I need to see a recap somewhere or will I be ok watching the 3rd season by itself? (I mean is there a deep connection between the 2 seasons or fairly independent of each other)?

Season 3 ends on a cliffhanger but I'm not going to watch season 4. What made season one enjoyable and season 2 bearable has disappeared completely. Namely, the relationships amongst the quartet of officers and how this affects them wheeling and dealing their way around complex criminality. Season 3 is all about complex criminality without any depth, the cops spent their time running from one to the next like headless chickens and it was a bore keeping up with the vor v zakone personnel. To top it off they kill Fargette, who was a great character, turn Vogel into a ridiculous serial killer and kill Mikhail Pavlovitch, the most interesting vor, who reminded me of Dominique Pinon and who I'd have like to see more from.

At first I thought S2 was not that great, but it was far better than S3. The Russian gangsters storyline was weak and too many silliness. Fargette was also a major loss and I hoped they could have done a lot better with Vogel. As far as Odette, what a huge letdown!
What shocked me was how they reduced Rox to a blubbering mess at the end. Here's the bad ass who pulled the plug, who slapped Atom guy senseless and was wily enough to find Vogel. And she's scared of a box? Come on!
Then how quickly did that Odette/Caplan storyline dissipate?
