What was Pat's stomach pain or 'infection'?

I admittedly missed bits of this film, given that I was constantly interrupted, but what was the bleeding pain in Pat's side?

Had she had some kind of illegal op in the past?

She was doing it to herself with tweezers. It wasn't an infection, she just told people that.

Ahhhhh.......another attention grab!

Yep, it was self-induced. She was caught picking at it with tweezers by her sister. I never have found out if the real woman on whom this story is based did the same thing, as I've never read the book, and when I've put the woman's name and "stomach" in the search, it just finds results about the stomach pains people got from her poisoning them.

My mother and I have wondered if one of my cousin's did something similar to her stomach over the years. She'd keep having a wound that wouldn't heal that would baffle doctors, and just as it'd get better with their heavy duty treatments, it'd get bad again, and she ultimately talked her way into another beloved surgery of hers to treat it. It has healed now, and she moved on to another body part... no joke. She seems to have a factitious disorder. At least she isn't harmful to other people like the woman in this film!

The real Pat Allanson had the "infection" on her butt. They just changed the location of the sore she created for TV I assume. Everything else about it was correct.

I was wondering about this. But when her sister is seen spying on Pat cutting her, I took it to be self-harm. It came across as part of her psychological illness to me.
