Maybe I'll Hate it if I Watch a 2nd Time???
I don't get it. I just don't see how this movie could have a 5.4 overall rating and have a 1 star review at the top.
I'm not one to really get into mainstream movies, but I'm not a movie snob either. I took a film class in college and although it was one of my favorite classes that I still remember today, I... HATE... Citizen... Kane... which is allegedly the "Best Movie Ever Made".... On the flip side, I also think that The Hangover is one of the most overrated movies and mediocre comedies of all time. (Tom Hanks' "The Burbs" is still funnier than The Hangover 20 years later IMO).
Maybe that's part of the problem? I had heard so many great things about both of those movies before finally seeing them that they could never possibly live up to the pictures people had painted for me.
I saw The Human Race a few weeks back on accident without knowing anything about it at all going into it, and I enjoyed every single minute of it immensely. Maybe that's the trick? Maybe you have to just accidentally stumble upon this movie without hearing anything at all about it from anyone?
I know it wasn't Hollywood budget with Hollywood stars, but I felt the acting was top notch for a bunch of no-names and even after the credits rolled all of these questions of "WTF is going on????" were nagging me in the back of my head. I'm sure once the action started my pulse was at least 10-15BPM higher than normal until sometime after it was over. The only thing I can compare it to was the time I played Limit Texas Holdem on the boat... Slow and Steady Wins the Race.... I played 12 straight hours and came away losing $40 bucks, but that constant and even adrenaline elevation was worth the price of admission ten fold.
Sure, the ending might have been a little disappointing, but it wrapped things up nicely while also leaving you with more questions. Even though they left it open, I hope that a sequel is never made though because unless it was done just perfectly I think it would just detract from the original great movie. I'd rather think of the last 3 minutes of "The Human Race" as a jumping off point for my imagination to think about possible sequels in my own mind.
2015 is almost over and I've only seen 3 good movies all year. None of them were released in 2015. The other two were "It's a Disaster" and "Time Lapse".
I'd tell the haters to "watch it again", but that is entirely pointless. If you didn't like it the first time, there's no chance you'd like it better the second time. You already know how it ends. The Not Knowing is half of what makes this movie so great.
For anyone who hasn't seen it, don't listen to the reviews here. Don't read anything about it. Just watch it and enjoy.
