Does 'Persian Cat' mean the musicians??

I don't think this was ever explained in the film, assuming "cat" might be like "hep cat"....?

Just saw this movie last night, we were blown away by how good it was--sympathetic and realistic characters, excellent music/soundtrack, believable plot and dialog. Just a little gem of a film. Only SIX people in the audience.

Powerful ideas--that these people had to work so hard to simply play and perform their music, and what they risked to do that.

Also an interesting slice of life in Tehran. I give it a double thumbs-up!

persia cat isnt the band. The title of the film 'no one knows about persian cats', is a reference to an iranian law that forbids cats and dogs from being outside [i think its to do with islam defining them as a dirty animal much like jews cant eat pork], meaning quite a few people in iran dont even no about the persian cat beed, nor do they no about the talented indie rock musicans all over iran forced to play underground. The iranian musicans are hidden from public view much like cats and dogs are in iran.

do you remember the bit in the film where Ashkan and Negar are pulled over by a cop, who takes their dog? thats an example of that law in action.

Glad you loved the film, more people really need to see this powerful piece of Iranian cinema

Only 2 years late, but for the sake of it:
With the dog situation you are right, in Iran dogs are seen as "dirty" animals etc. Some people have dogs at home or as guard dogs but traditionally it isnt a common pet.

But the law for cats not to wander around, is just to keep them from being run over - to protect the cat. There are so many cars in Iran, most drivers are crazy and lots of damn cats everywhere! Some are really wild too, so if your the owner they will fine you if your cat is outside.

And if they just find a cat with no owner, they eat it. No they dont..

it means that no one knows about talent of Iranian musicians and young artists and it refer to persian cats that are very valuable like iranian musician but government don`t let them to show theirselve in the world

Actually it's not like that back in Iran those people who harass people because of they're pet they harass people for everything that's just the point you can get harassed even for having a dog in the car but believe me Tehran is full of cats everywhere and we are very much know about them because in each street there is at least 10 cats they are usual street animals and many have cats as pet and they can't harass you for that because Islamic rules is only about dogs ( I think when Arabs were deciding what animal is filthy and which is not they haven't seen cats in their life before :D )

Quite, dogs and pigs are "dirty".

The looks you get if you have a pet dog are disgusting. If you have it in a cage or on a leash, in the home or in the car, people look at you strangely. My neighbour came round and was shocked to see we had a dog inside the house (I'm western, the dog belongs to another friend who was staying round) and didn't want it touching him.

How corrupt peoples minds have become.
