People on this Board
First, let me say that I kind of enjoyed Amer. It's certainly not one of the best films of the decade, or even its respective year, but with its beautiful shots and evident appreciation for stylized cinema, it has a place in the world of art films.
As for it being just like every other giallo... that's pretty much a bs statement right there. I can see the inspiration, but when people on this board say 'if you like so-and-so (a giallo title) then you'll like this because it is like those films', I question whether those people have seen those movies. Both have plots, but gialli have very up front details, and they are very far from Amer. Even Suspiria, an admittedly low-key plot, has more to say than Amer (and is a better film).
Those saying that this is the worst of the worst, though correct about it maybe being a bit too pretentious (it is; I can't say it's not when it so clearly is, but I kind of ) are not taking into account everything. You can think this, but I find they have a smaller past viewing experience pool. But those who repeatedly reply to these folks with "OMG, go turn off your brain and watch a mainstream film" are almost as bad. It's also not helping people to see why perhaps they should give Amer a second shot. It's encouraging their viewpoint of the annoying uninformed not-really-underground indie-propaganda'd new film theorists that don't know anything about what they're talking about. So please, next time someone says they hate a film, don't tell them to watch Transformers, because you're only making them shy away even further...
That is all. Oh, and that the scene with the dark veiled lady in the beginning is creepy as hell!
