I can appreciate the reversal of conflict...

in the relationship of Michael and Carlos. I am closer to being a "Michael" than I am any other character. Most commonly, it is the chubby guy who is gonna wrestle the most with insecurity in his relationship with a chaser. It was nice seeing a strong grounded chub, secure in himself and his relationship, while seeing the CHASER as the insecure mess.

And before anyone brings it up, I didn't see Michael's decision to undergo lapband as a battle with insecurity so much as it was a battle with discrimination.

He's going to be battling diabetes, heart disease, and God knows what else if he doesn't lose some weight. That is the issue this film did not mention. It would be like a movie about chain smokers where nobody gets lung cancer.

Contrary to your assumption, and the current "we must all be thin to be healthy" trend of the medical profession right now, overweight does not necessarily mean unhealthy. It is not a foregone conclusion that overweight people will absolutely develop health problems because they're overweight. Yes, weight can be a factor in things like type two diabetes, heart disease, etc. but guess what? Skinny people get those things too. And there are lots of fat people who don't. Surprise. Surprise.
