total rubbish

just watched this and i like odd ball films, but this was *beep*
something along the lines of two guys clear out peoples bad memories ie skeletons in the cupboard so people can live without regrets or something
well thats my impression, saving grace was some nice country side scenes.

I am amazed that anyone can be so dismissive of such a great film. Okay, I know we can't all have the same taste in films, music etc... but I found Skeletons to be imaginative, funny, beautifully acted and an intriguing story.

I know most people won't agree with me... but I think this film knocks 'Inception' into a cocked hat. Give me characters with real depths of humour and pathos over special effects anytime.

reply

As much as I loved Inception, everything it lacked can be found in Skeletons.

Only the closed mind is certain.

Why?

Good script, well-paced, great acting and refreshingly different. Just curious, what would you consider a good film then?

reply

I enjoyed this a LOT and I'm not easily swayed by the typical rubbish. "Odd ball films" can go both ways, maybe the films you like seem like rubbish to me? This was original and never boring.

reply

It's obvious he didn't actually watch the movie.

Aside from the fact that the dialogue is incomprehensible to American ears (subtitles would have helped), the film struck me as a glum, borderline incoherent botch.
I'm not surprised it never received theatrical distribution in the states.
A nice attempt at "something different," but it misses on virtually every count

reply

I also found it virtually incomprehensible.

Other than these guys being some kind of psychic detectives, and a husband/father gone missing, I basically had no idea what else was going on, the entire time.

The acting seemed excellent, but since I didn't know what they were talking about 90% of the time, it wasn't enough.

reply

Most Hollyweird films are 90% incomprehensible... perhaps Amerikuns need to broaden their minds and views slightly more to realise that Amerika is NOT the centre of the universe. P.S. I am American but not by definition simply because I was born there and yet I found this movie to be exceptional, the fact it didn't get such wide theatrical distribution in the States is a good thing because they won't now remake/adapt/"re-imagine" it for Amerikun audiences who are too vapid and ignorant to appreciate foreign culture and film.

it was a great film, the dialogue was well pronounced, maybe we should start doing "americanised" shakespear or dickens, if you can't understand ENGLISH
then come up with your own language!

AMERICANS!!!

a smart and clever movie 7.5/10

Come now people... I am American (technically) and I had no problem understanding the language. The problem is at its core that many many people are just not cultured. The fault is not theirs and you know that. The fault is in the way they were raised and educated. Of course, how much they were able to travel has something to do with it as well. Again, a matter of being cultured. The great English authors or for that matter authors as a whole were unable to take part in their life curriculum. A shame it is but a foreshadow of what the future holds.

I'm very open minded (and I'm English) but the flow of the film just didn't work for me.
I don't like my films to be spoonfed to me - but this whole concept didn't work.
As said precviously - it was well scripted and well acted but that just wasn't enough.

Another Brit here who feels disappointed by the film.

Like another poster, the plot lost me although I did take the time to rewind and try again.

The concept of the film, people who can remove skeletons from your closet is fine. I really liked the scene involving the couple and their extramarital activities. It was funny but also revealed to us a trait of the main character with the glasses, which was that he felt uncomfortable with coming in like a tornado into people's lives and leaving them to clean up the mess themselves.

Instead of focusing on that trait, the plot turned to the inner turmoil of the main character who lives in a boat, which sounded interesting enough but didn't live up to its potential once they arrived at the missing man's house. For the last half hour or so, I was willing the film to end.

One memorable thing about the film for me is the locations. Disused railway lines are eerie and fit the odd tone of this film.

This was a hard film to get into despite the work of its actors.

Its that man again!!
