Two (White) Nativity movies

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0762121/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Do a search in IMDB they are titled "The Nativity" there are two

reply

Are they called white nativity?

reply

they don't have to be called white nativity, because most of the major actors are white.

reply

Then why does black nativity have to be called black nativity. If there are no other nativity films released this year it could have simply been called nativity (2013).

reply

that's what langston hughes chose to title it.

also, the title makes no difference. white people would complain about it if it was called "on top of spaghetti."

reply

I don't think they would.

I wonder whether it was to be controversial, but I doubt it. It seems more like the guy just didn't think.

reply

white people complain on all other IMDB boards in which there are more than two black actors in a film.

this happens no matter what the film is titled.

so if this film were titled "nativity" white people would be complaining about the lack of white actors in the film.

that's what some of these trollish people do.

go check the boards of "best man holiday" or "12 years a slave" or "the butler" to confirm for yourself.

as for langston hughes, that was his choice in entitling the play "black nativity." you have to consider the time period that he was alive in, as well, and what kinds of things black people were going through then.

the film was an obvious homage to langston hughes, as they kept referring to him and his works throughout the story.

Aha, written in 1962. Well that solves it. Unfortuantly in keeping true to it's original name and made into a modern movie, people are just going to assume it's black people taking ownership over something, when that isn't the case.

what do you mean, "taking ownership?"

does the title "nativity" or the nativity story belong to someone?
