Do French people understand without subtitles?

I've watched it with French subtitles. But it feels like what they speak is not exactly what shown in the subtitles.

Goodness NO. I spent some time in Montreal and understood everyone but this film got me like "WTF"? I had to rewind many times. The fact that they're yelling 80 per cent of the time doesn't help.
